Captain Marvel

So the MCU has finally brought in the big hitters to tackle on Thanos, with this female lead (it is apparently a thing in today's society) origins story.

Captain Marvel is as such the final movie before the Avengers: Endgame, and with half the heroes wiped out by the snap, it seemed the cavalry has been brought in big time.

Now, what I liked about the movie especially, is all the knot backs to movies from before, like how the SHIELD base is the one from the beginning of The Avengers, or how the Kree Empire doesn't have that doom and gloom look yet it has in Guardians of the Galaxy.  Or how MCU Fury lost his eye...

The story itself is how a Kree warrior called Vers seems to have flashbacks to a previous life.  Tought to hunt the shapechanging Skrull, she feels something is wrong and goes back to Earth to discover her past.

Here she learns that she isn't who she appears to be, and how slowly her memories return with the help of a young Fury.  During a hunt for a renegade Skrull scientist, Talos, she learns more about a Project Pegasus and a scientist named Lawson, unravelling her clouded past as they go on... and a hero that pales all the previous MCU ones in power level is born.

Just be aware of cats from now on...

Pippin, Squire of Gondor

When arriving in the White City, Pippin pledged himself to the service of Denethor and became a squire of Gondor.

And as such, I completed the old metal version of this model, ready to stand amongst the forces of Minas Tirith in my games of MESBG.

While not the mightiest of heroes, this plucky little chap can't lead a warband of his own, but can be included in another band and add some might to the force for a cheap points ratio.

I will put him (thematically) into Denethor's band as a result, and I hope he will prove his might (pun intended) as a result, especially in smaller scale games where the high tier heroes are generally absent anyways.  And at 30 points including his cloak, he is quite a bargain...

Now to get some Guards ready to join this warband...

The new Dux has been chosen

And it became Arne, who broke the 17 Reknown barrier and couldn't be ousted from it in the final month.

Congratulations mate on this well deserved victory after a year of bloody campaigning.

And thanks to Willie for running the whole shabang, which wasn't an easy job with all us hotheads in there x-D

I myself stranded on second place, not to shabby at all for a newbie.

There might be a new campaign next year after the club moves, but that won't be for me to be honest, I'm not a fan of the whole Dux gamesystem I must say.  It has some serious loopholes for my tastes, and that makes for some serious unrealistic moments on the one hand, and as I said in an earlier post a few months ago, some serious 'redundancy' of the tactical movement of a game.

But it was fun while it lasted, and I was glad to have participated for sure even though I`ll probably never play the ruleset again.

The Haul Report 188

Dolly and me went to the Sinksenfoor this week, a large, month long carnival here in Antwerp.

And of course, hunting for stuffed anumals is part of the game...

While initially I caught her a smaller Stitich and a Pikachu for myself, we also gathered enough points to trade them in together with the two beasties to get a big Stitch for her, which I duly did.

Okay, and with the left over points, I snatched myself a Pokemon TCG booster, who knows what rare might be in there (it was a Tyranitar GX and an uncommon foil Nufleaf btw).

To round it out on the carnival, with the game of string pulling I won a selfie stick, which will be a welcome tool for battle reports and game pictures...

The final haul is a small parcel that came from my regular ebay dealer, containing the 3 remaining arnor warriors for my battle company, a mahud blowpipe and 2 castellans of Dol Guldur.

So that was a great heap of fun this week to obtain the items!

On the Painting Desk 101

Something got finished this week, woop woop!

I managed to round of the Rohan battle company models this week, as you could see in a post earlier this week.  And some Minas Tirith spearmen are moved to the back up closet as they await basing, which will happen when all of them are ready.

So now at least Noshi can trash me with my army of choice x-D

I also did some work on the next battle company I wanted to round out, the dwarves of the Durin's Folk list, and tinkered a bit with some Future War Commander models in the form of some 6mm Razorbacks, while already basecoating some bigger tanks and infantry as well.


In the coming week, I'll be trying to finish some of the 6mm, and do some work on the Rivendell Elves mainly, to clear those soonish of my desk as a result...

The Summer Project 2019: clean up that desk

It's perhaps a bit of a shame that an upcoming move of places has to be brought in to get myself focussed, but hey, any motivation is good motivation...

But normally, the new place should be ready around november, and that means by then a lot of packing up and stuffing into boxes, in order to go from place A to B...

While I have a lot of boxes and carrying cases just to do that without any problems, it is also a good motivation to spend the limited painting time between then and now to try and finish all the things I have standing around primed, half painted or just assembled so far.

As such, for the upcoming months I won't be adding anything new to the ranks, just go with what is now on the desk (and the "back up closet") and round those all out, painting up as we go to make it a more "pack together easier" event AND actually see that desk empty before it has to be moved itself.  And mostly, as I said in an earlier post, go for the relatively quick to finish, short term projects first I listed in there before...

Now, one thing this sort of stacking and sorting also brings along, is the fact one finds a lot of either unpainted stuff that really won't get used in the future, or parts of armies that you don't like playing with.  These models will in all probability either end on some trade forum or on the Bring and Sell at Crisis this year.  The more I can ditch that way... the less I have to pack up and move as a result, let alone find a spot for...

Rohan battle company finished

Finally I did it, I finished my battle company of my beloved Rohirrim.

Now ready to take to the fields of battle, this has always been "my force" in the Lord of the Rings games, ever since I first read the book when I was around the age of 12.

The archers had already been finished in the past, so for this paint session I added the warriors armed with shields, some wielding throwing spears to add in to the charge.

And it also adds a small amount of points, 39 to be exact, to the Rohan army in build up...

No idea how they will fare on the tabletop, they will be my band for the campaign I have planned in 2020 anyways...

The TSA 40k League 2019: halfway down the line

So, the first week of July has come, and the possibility to register in our club league has now closed.

So what has this brought about so far?

Well, the League will be fought out by 28 players, some casual, some hardcore, but a lot of people are playing each other now.

With potientially 27 games one can play over the course of the league,  1 player have already broken the 10+ games mark, namely Mike with his Orks.

The League table now stands like this, with only 2 players so far having registred yet not having made an appearance on the tabetop, though one just registred right before the closing this weekend.

Prognoses?  Hard to tell, as all in the top positions have so far been dropping points along the road against lower classified players, but there are those Custodes slowly and steadily taking up the ranking, going unbeaten so far.


For myself, I haven't suffered a defeat either in the league, but my very limited chances to get a game in have killed off all possible ambitions and I will linger in the midfield as that like one friday in the month so far that I could come and play has been spend in doing other game systems like Future War Commander for my mini narative campaign with Nemesis.

But now that the list is "closed", and the main players are getting in each others vincinity of people still to challenge, this list can be seriously shaken up over the coming months.  I'll post an update when the 'sprint to the line' begins around october and then we can see what has transferred during the summer period, a traditionally calmer period for wargames with people going on holidays and the likes...

Wanted: Dead by Mike Brooks

Part of the series 1 Novella line by Games Workshop's Black Library, this novel is set in the world of Necromunda, a teeming hive full of warring gangs.

While on the short side at 118 pages, it does make a good read, even though the end is a bit "as expected".

In the teeming hives of Necromunda, from the highest peaks to the lowest depths, life is a constant fight for survival.  When an ambush in the Underhive goes wrong, and a Guilder gets killed, an Escher gang suddenly find themselves outlawed.
Now the hunters have become the hunted, and everyone is after their blood - enforcers, bounty hunters, even other gangs.  With their leader dead, Jarene of the Wild Cats has to take control and save the lives of herself and her sisters in arms, as well as restoring the honour of their gang.
For the fateful ambush was no accident, and the true culprits need to face justice.

A swift read as it is written really well, this novel will be good company for a lazy evening next to your chempowered stove, enjoying your ratkebabs...
