Perhaps one of the most spoken of series last year, this 5 part HBO miniseries tells the story of the all to well known disaster of 1986...
Even I remember the images on the television, being 8 at the time (yeah, I`m not that young anymore).
The series starts with a bang, literally, as we enter the series seconds after reactor 4 has exploded after a safety test, even though unknown to the control room at that time. Slowly it starts to sink in something is seriously wrong, even though the plant owners discard the accident for the size it really is.
As Soviet bureaucracy delays the assessement even further of the drama, the town of Pritpyat gets radiated, while the local firefighters and other unsung heroes get severe radiation poisoning.
Slowly the truth starts to sink in, and the series follows the heroic tales of the average Soviet citizen in securing the site, often at great personal sacrifice, to contain the damage.
And then the truth has to be told on trial...
A really gripping series that shows a lot of the "small drama" from the normal employee, citizen and soldier against the greater impact of the back then first truly nuclear disaster...
