Our friends at the Hermelijn store in Aalst sure love their Underworlds, and organising events for it!
So Nico from Winckelworks ran the third Underworlds tournament this year in this lovely venue, and as I had won the previous two, I of course joined again.
But that means I need to finish going through the bands I had painted up this year to at least get them to one event, and the lucky ones for this event are The Thricefold Discord. Because I love Slaanesh and all the sexual innuendo jokes I can make playing them. Also, they are one of the better paintjobs on warbands imho I did this year, so it would be a pity not to use them... or my infamous sleeves and box for one of the last times. Just don't ask about the pizzaguy and the gyneacologist...
And I admit, I aim to make a hattrick at Mines of Alost this year, having won both the first edition (Rivals format with Garrek's Reavers) and the second (Nemesis with Cyreni's Razors).
The deck is centered around Blazing Assault and Countdown to Cataclysm. Basically, after my recent too much Emberwatch encounters, I went for an "Anti Elite Aggro Hyper Aggro" approach...
We ended up with 5 participants due to holiday and other obligations, so every one would play against another once, and each player would receive a bye.
Round 1: Nico with Mollog's Mob
The big troll, and to be honest I don't fear the beast as much as in edition 1. Mostly ignoring him in the first round, he managed to hit Vexmor in the second... only to be then killed by a combined attack from Lacavyr followed by Vexmor, bringing the brute down. All that remained where to kill the Spiteshroom and the Bat Squig, as Stalagsquig was taken out in my very first activation. A 21-13 victory was the result, with a tabled Mob.
Round 2: Thibaud with Thundrik's Profiteers
Slow, shooty dwarfs, that should be do-able. Lascavyr immediatly rushed forward on the first activation, and with a Twist the Knife killed his heavy puncher Khazgan. Enrik soon followed, but then Garodd took out Lascavyr. However, when Thundrik himself was soon smacked to bits by Vexmor, it was a clean-up job, aka the Hunt for Lund, and tabling the Kharadron a 19-11 was on the scoreboard. Sorry 'bout the picture, seemed Lascivyr was to fast from the get go for the camera...
Round 3: Johan with Grandfather's Gardeners
Ah, the resistant Nurgle followers! As I had to spread my damage to work around the clock for the heal, the fest was a bit more divided, even putting me 10-9 behind after the second round. Only, well, he had Squort left with a single wound and Great Fortitude. I pinged the fly, the Vile Temptanioned it's upgrade away in the first activation of round 3, tabling the Plaguebearers in a demonic battle, and scored a 15-13 victory.
Round 4: bye
My round to skip, and see how it went on the other tables. As Johan won from Thibaud, I couldn't lose the tournament anymore, as Thibaud was the only one that could also go in the final round, where he had the bye, with 3 major victories, Johan had a minor in round 2 so best he could achieve was 3 wins with 1 minor in it against my 3 major, so tournament victory was obtained while not playing.
Round 5: Wouter with Ephilim's Pandemonium
It didn't matter, but I wanted to make my tabling streak complete. Lascivyr did her thing killing Apo'Trax with Twist the Knife and pingin Ephilim. But then Ephilim strangely canny sapped in front of Vexmor, the Tzeentch sorcerer was banished before round 1 was over. Round 2 was cleaning up, leaving Flamespooler hup around on 1 wound for scoring On the Edge. And finishing it off in round 3, tabling also this final warband of the day, with a 15-11 victory.
As the dust settled, well, it was a Slaanesh storm that went over the tables, slaughtering left and right while cackling in exstacy at all the glorious slaughter. I guess my sleeves seriously distracted my opponents!
But I had obtained my hattrick, all three Mines of Alost tournaments added to my tally this year, and took home a lovely certificate for the trophy cabinet and some dice of Morgok's a colour set I didn't have yet. Add to that the participation gift of a cardbinder and a Space Marine sprue, and it was a nice day out.
And ending second in the painting competition after Mollog was a nice boost as well for the morale.
Memorable moments
1. I must be the first person in history that over the course of a whole tournament doesn't manage to score "Get Stuck in" even once... either they where already tabled by the time I drew it, or the few survivors where hiding in my half
2. Not one enemy warband survived, having tabled all 4 opponents and myself only losing Lascavyr once in game 2... that's 1 casualty suffered over the course of 4 games.
3. Apparently, I delivered the one-liner of the day against Thundrik's with "dien enen dwerg ga het ni meer oplossen" (roughly translated: that one dwarf ain't gonna solve it)
Thanks Nico and Hermelijn for running the event, and to Nico and Johan for the additional pictures!
