Warhammer Underworlds battle report: Myari's Purifiers versus The Grymwatch

Time to try out my chill build using Nexus of Power and Hunting Grounds again in an effort to have a calm and stressless day at the Benelux Clash tournament.

Which due to the machinations of time will already have passed when you are viewing this on YouTube, so check back on that video to see how it went... unless you are reading this blog, then you still have a week to go before the tournament happens.  Doctor Who would be proud of this timey wimey stuff!

Facing me was Tom and those irritiating Grymwatch, but actually playing holding aelves feel more comfortable against them as I don't need to kill his leader at all costs compared to playing aggro, and can just try and play around the ghouls and open the score.  He played Nexus of Power with Emberstone Sentinels as a deck.

Both bands deployed, and tokens where flipped.  I only took the chance to flip one, blocking off the hold objective 1 and 2 card should he have it before he needed to start delving.

The chance did open up to hit Krakmarrow, and Ailenn took it, but failed to hit him unfortunatly.

But no issues, as Senaela shot Valreek of an objective, allowing me to score some surges and get an early glory lead.

The board stabilised, though Ailenn had been gravely wounded and was vunerable, but the Lumineth where in the lead 9-2 as Pinned also could be scored thanks to my archers shot.  And I nicely controlled my aggro urges, as not a single casualty had fallen in the whole first round!

Starting the second round, Myari took down Valreek this time, though of course she would be back later on.

Sneaking back on the board in my back, some Hidden Snares at least prevented her from coming in like a madwoman as Ailenn had sought the security of her fellow Purifiers.

Myari tried to hit a guarded Gristlewel, but the only thing he needed to do was attack after all, so it didn't matter if he missed while Bahannar infiltrated the enemy's territory to deny some possible objectives he might have.

Scoring Lead by Example, the Purifiers extended their lead now to 13-5 after the second round.

At the beginning of the third round, Ailenn finally went down against the flesheater court followers, a fate to long prolonged in my opinion but heck, I'm not complaining.

The Grymwatch started to move all over the place, aiming to take as many treasure tokens as possible.  The Royal Butcher was taken out, only to appear again near Bahannar...

... and be smashed off again by the big hammer wielder, talk about a short cameo!

And so the game ended, the Purifiers keeping their lead and preventing Supremacy and Take Objective 1 or 2 in those final moments.  Senaela had fallen, but she had snuck in an attack while being covetous still, grabbing Close The Vice to round out the game and put a 17-9 victory on the board.

So yeah, that went well, not only in a scoring level (and I struggled to get inspired this game contrary to their previous outings) but more importantly on the "stay calm and don't charge wildly" level.  The warband will see a few more test games before the event, but I feel I created a solid midfield band and deck combo, which is my aim for the tournament.

Being already qualified for Worlds means I don't need to have "an edge" an will be playing some other people normally in the belly of the rankings, and I look forward to that in all honesty.
