At only an half hour drive away from my front door, Bobbejaanland is like the "go to" amusement park for me, think of it as a home game.
Actually, in my childhood it was only 5 minutes away, so I have been there a LOT of times already in my lifetime.
And last week, me and Noshi went there for the Halloween event. Now, it was school holidays, they ran promotions AND it was the only dry day that week, so it was immensely busy, in that we only managed to do 4 coasters in a whole day, with waiting lines going between 45 to 75 minutes on every one of them, from kiddy coasters to legendary coasters...
Along the park there where 4 scarezones installed as well as 7 spooky houses, all opening at 15.15 hrs as the park was opened that day until 21.00 hrs. Make sure to check this whenever you go there like next year for Halloween, because on regular days without a Nocturne, not all the houses are open.
The park was thematised around the scarezones, but also their snacks all had a Halloween touch, like these icecreams and waffles.
The best looking zone is around the wild west village, where you have both Dios de las Muertas as well as a Circus Carnivale. Now, I must say, the actors at that later one where really in their roles, heavily interacting with the crowd.
Most of the shows that are taking place in the scarezones are also more intresting during these late hours, as the darkness adds to the atmosphere quit a lot.
Of course, we did a few rides as well, apart from the above mentioned coasters we tried out the King Kong attraction, mostly with the idea if that is suitable should we bring Thorin along next time. Who was at his grandmother for today, as we didn't want to scare the 5 year old... though you can buy a sort of button that prevents actors from scaring children.
During midday of course it was time for lunch, and I grabbed a sausage and some peasoup, excellent to warm up the outer shell, as it was dry, but not warm that day. And standing in line gets you the chills after a while... and yes, I mix mayo and mustard, I'm deranged like that!
And then the houses opened, and I ended up doing three of them. Wrecked brings you aboard a sunken pirate ship, with fantastic decors.
Alice in Horrorland is beautifully decorated and really immersive. We had 4 young girls in our group (they let you in by groups of 6) who screamed their lungs out at every jump scare.
The final one I did, as Noshi doesn't like clowns, is Bazare Bizarre in the wild west village, where you wear 3D glasses to improve the very neon experience. While this is the lowest rated for scares (only 2 out of 5 skulls, the others bar the new one are all at 4, Next of Kin is at 5 and is the newest addition), I actually jumped the most here. And not only because of the sexy clowns in there, and the end tunnel with 3D glasses is an epic experience.
Understandably, in none of the houses you are allowed to film or take pictures, so not much to see from the insides above...
We ended with the legendary inside coaster, the Revolution. I was there in it's first year of opening, all the way back in 1989, and I still consider it my all time favorite coaster. The clock is just an icon of my childhood.
And I picked up the new Revolution merchandise pin for today's souvenir (the special Halloween one was to bland, not stating Bobbejaanland on it anywhere).
So, Bobbejaanland Halloween, it was worth it. The spooky houses are an extra fee (I should have taken the special multiple houses pass for them, but heck, that's something we know now for next year) but they are so worth it. Great decorations and atmosphere, awesome actors and costumes as you can see in the parade clip above, just a good all round event.
Until next year, I'll definiftly be back for more Halloween goodness!
Or for Winter Bobbejaanland, as Santa's House is already being erected...
