My Dress-Up Darling

Highly anticipated by yours truly, this rom-com slice of life has the potential of becoming one of those guilty pleasure series, and new waifu material.

 

 

Because well, the series is basically the reverse of usual, in that the most geekiest of the main characters is actually the stunning hot babe instead of the guy.

 

Gojo Wakana is a shut-in high school student who loves to have a hand at making Hina dolls.  When one day Marin, the popular girl of his class, comes in the sewing room, she confesses herself as someone that wants to cosplay but isn`t good at sewing, so they strike up the most unlikely of friendships. 

When he finishes her costume, they go together to their first cosplay convention to a huge success.  Both happy, Gojo confesses to her she looked beautiful, a word he had explained to her he couldn`t say lightly due to his past, and only if it comes pure out of his heart.  This makes Marin realise she is falling head over heels for Gojo.  Some days later, "Juju-san", the cosplay idol of Marin, arrives at Gojo's store, demanding he makes her a costume.

While coming over to Marin's place to watch some anime for a the next project, Marin comes to realize she head over heels "wuvs" Gojo.  They meet up with Juju-san and her younger sister, learning a lot about photgraphy, editing and settings.  While Marin goes to cosplay Black Lobelia in a collab with Juju, Gojo secretly makes a costume for her sister as well, as the girl also wanted to cosplay herself instead of just being the photographer.

They have a great time during the group shoot, and afterwards marin decides she needs to restyle Gojo.  During the fitting sessions, she realizes how madly in love she is with him, and is flattered when he doesn`t want to see the new costume he made her, thinking it to revealing.  After a date at a manga cafe, they find themselves in a love hotel for a photoshoot.  And at the end, they almost end up finally kissing each other...

But after they visit a fireworks festival and a nightlong phonecall, Marin confesses her love for him.

It seems every year, that one innocent rom-com anime appears that is just sooooo enjoyable to watch (like the Quintuplets second season last year), and this one certainly put a smile on my face.
