Vermeil in Gold

An anime series that was highly hyped when it was to come out, I started watching it upon release of course.

Not for the potential waifu factor mind you ;-)

Alto Goldfield hasn`t scored to great on his summoning exams, and is instructed to make a contract with a familiar before the next day.  He finds a strange summoning tome, and tries to recreate the ritual, resulting in a demon to appear. A gorgeous, heavily equipped in the oppai section, demoness whome he bounds to become his familiar, Vermeil.   This ecchi demoness wants to be used in "any"way by her new master Alto, but he holds that boat off.  She tells him she is a very evil woman but agrees to the contract finally being freed from the tome after a long time.

Challenged by a classmate that can control a high power wind spirit, Vermeil quickly shows how powerful she is, fast overcoming it and winning the duel for Alto.  But it isn`t easy with the buxom, uber powerfull demoness at his side to easily blend in.  When the Student Council, five mighty students arrive, and he gets challenged by the Dragonriders captain, a bratty girl named Chris.  Even though they have to go deep, they manage to beat her and her arrogant composure.

But one of their instructors, professor Obsidian, seems to have a strange secret agenda with the students, as Rex, in his efforts to prove his dinosaur is as strong as dragons, seems to tap into strange powers, kidnapping and severely beating up Chris.  Alto appears, but before the battle begins, student council president intervenes.  Vermeil confronts the professor, and he manages to inject something into her, turning her into a raging demoness.  Enslaving her, he is attacked by her but Alto steps in and is pierced by her claw.  This brings her back to her senses, and saving Alto's life.

Professor Obsidian, in desperation, injects himself to turn into a demon hybrid, only to be taken down by a very, very pissed Vermeil. But saving Alto means they are now very connected.  Alto tells her he needs her by his side always, and the two grow ever closer before being summoned to the student council president for a meeting about tackling a threat to the college.  They offer him a seat on the council as he prepares for his exams.

But perhaps his strongest enemy , Iolite, makes himself known during the exam, facing Alto and Vermeil after overcoming the teachers in the room.  But with Vermeil in danger, Alto's true potential awakens, releasing an ancient mage from the book he found Vermeil in.  She takes him 550 years to the past, making him see who Vermeil was and how she became who she is.

And that is part of a very, very tragic story of townspeople judging her for her looks... resulting in her becoming demonic instead of the good and holy child she was up to then.  And this resulting in Alto confirming his love for her.  This breaks their imprisonment, facing off with Iolite for their climatic battle as he calls it.  But the fight is intervened, and Iolite takes his leave.

This wasn`t a bad series to watch, but I didn`t go into the hype factor as some have, or how it was announced.  Never the less, if a series 2 would come, I would watch it, but I doubt I`d be looking out for either the manga or merchandise.
