Journey to Felstad: jumping into 2nd edition

So, finally I'm starting a Frostgrave 2nd edition campaign, together with Thibaud from our Underworlds community.

And of course, that is the perfect chance to build and paint a total new warband!

As I still had the Soldiers of Fortune #19, Bodmail the Druidess, from Warlord Games lying around, I opted to make her my wizard, a Witch.  Known only as the "The Blind Witch of Balantine", she leads a band of cultist from the Red Marshes (hence their reddish tunics), who form her retinue.  Hideously mutated from being so close to her arcane arts and potion experiments, she doesn't care at all, being blind.  Unfortunatly, her apprentice, a young Halfling called Francis Fluffyfeet isn't so lucky... and to make matters worse, the Blind Witch actually thinks he is an eight year old boy that she is training, laughing away his claims he is an adult halfling all the time...

The warband consists from models made out of the Northstar Miniatures Cultists II box, as these have that lovely gruesome feel to them.  The five armed with only a hand weapon are thugs, the guy with the shield is a Man-at-Arms, the two-handed axe wielder is a Barbarian and finally a Treasure Hunter, the one with the torch, make up the force.

Which leaves us only with her spells to sort out, and she starts with the following:

Own - Witch (+0): Brew Potion (12), Curse (8) and Poison dart (10)

Aligned (+2): Enchant Armour (Enchanter - 8), Leap (Summoner - 8) and Steal Health (Necromancer - 10)

Neutral (+4): Crumble (Chronomancer - 10) and Heal (Thaumaturge - 8)

I went for a selection reflection the nature of a witch, going mostly for curse like abilities or spells that can be interpreted as being hedge magic, as that fits her narrative quit well in my opinion.

And now, let the journey begin to the frozen city of Felstad!

Where she will meet her nemesis, because every wizard needs an arch-rival.  It is one of those unwritten laws in magic.

And that is The Crazies of the Barrel!

Long before the ruins of Felstad where rediscovered, there where little, stubborn beings that lived in the snow-covered valleys to the south of the city.  Amongst then was an excentric gnome, known as Achouffe the Tireless, an alchemist and brewer of great repute.
According to the legends Achouffe discovered a secret: an age-old recipy that didn't only bring forth beer, but could also hold magic in a liquid form.  His brews could heal wounds, sharpen the mind..., or if brewed wrongly, create utter chaos.
When Felstad fell to the catastrophy that covered the city in ice, it also meant that Achouffe's biggest experiment was lost: a barrel that contained pure arcane energy, bound to a golden ale.  But centuries later, the legends are not forgotten, and the Guild of the Frozen Chouffe, made up of a motley bunch of brewers and thirsty adventurers led by a wizard-alchemist who claims to be a direct descendant of Achouffe himself.
Their goal is simple, and dangerous: find and recover the lost barrel in the ruins of Felstad!

His warband was formed around his wizard from the school of Sigilism, and joined by a Tracker, 2 Infantry Men and 5 Thieves apart from his shroomy apprentice.

So Thibaud joined me in this endeavour, as we both wanted to play Frostgrave, and created a band of models kitbashed from Oathmark Dwarfs and Wargames Atlantic Peasant Levy.  This gave some nicely deformed models, resembling the gnome from the beer bottles of La Chouffe, and a perfect theme for his warband!

Let the treasure hunt begin!
