Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers Part 2

Not only was I excited for the continuation of the classic anime earlier this year, it was actually rather good as well.

And now the second part of the series is in the summer season, so time for some more enjoyment hopefully!

After Ramaga was seemingly defeated at the expense of Gai sacrificing himself, it turns out the Divine World has other plans and the Samurai Troopers must stop them.  Betrayed from within, the Divine Beasts want to overthrow their ruler, who is actually Gai's mother, and bring back an ancient evil.  Gai is freed as a result, and Ryusei has been ressurected, rejoining the Samurai Troopers after Shion dies in battle (and with him, the last of the second generation Samurai).

Joined by the surviving Ten Warriors of Ramaga, they venture together to the divine realms to stop the attacks and destruction, and while the Warriors fall, they play their part in bringing the ghost of Ramaga back to help the Troopers.  In a fitting tribute, the original five fight back in our realm to keep the invasion in check, and it was great fun to see the old armours back in action, bit like Saint Seiya Omega did with the original saints.  Nostalgic fan service galore.

Eventually, they do manage to overcome the evil god though at some great personal losses, but as they prepare themselves to carry on their Troopers duties, peace for now has returned.

Now honestly, I'm not to wild about this sequel series.  While the first part still had some good moments, and this has the nostalgia feel, the fact is that it is TO focussed on the Armor of the Emperor, making the four others apart from Gai really be sidecharacters.  Even some of the Ten Warriors get more screentime and development then them.  So that makes it all a bit of a missed opportunity in my opinion, as this show could have been more had it not relied so heavily on the constant summoning of their "ultimate trumph card".

But, it was fun to see out of childhood feelings... but what the heck was going on with that boysband opening????
