Time for some more Mecha anime after a heap of other series, and Fafner is the ideal one for my fix.
I so far loved the story of Fafner, and now the series continues after the 2nd Exodus series with The Beyond, split up in various ONA mini series / movies.
And The Beyond is the first of them, a 3 episode of 4 series released with half a year between each up and about.
It begins with the Fafner's dropping from orbit, coming to the aid of a besieged base where the Prometheus is finally ready to launch into space. Decimating a force of enemies, they break through easily to get the captured children on the base back. But when a large Festum appears, they are beaten back at a great price.
Jumping forward 3 years, Soushi and the children have seemingly returned there, and are amongst the inhabitants now. The island is isolated from the world, not knowing what is going on, and Fafner's are urban myths. But then Soushi receives a radio message and starts seeing a strange person he vaguely remembers from a dream.
It turns out Soushi was indeed abducted and lived in an artificial world for three years. Why is it the Festum raised him instead of assimilating him? The key might be with him being brought in touch with his past on Alvis-3.
A good fix for my mecha need once again, as this remains truly a great series, and with another strong soundtrack, once again by Angela and in the style of the Gundam SEED series of drawing.
