Terra Formars volume 7 - Yu Sasuga and Ken-Ichi Tachibana

The survivors of the Annex mission try to make their way back to their base ship, after the gruelling first day on Mars.

A day full of events, which already saw their numbers reduced, but also taught them some important things about the Terra Formars so far.

On earth, the nations funding U-Nasa gather to seek to start "Plan delta" as apparently the United States failed to launch a rescue vessel to Mars.  As their and japan's position weaken, China steps in, claiming to send an armed vessel to Mars, to usurp the tech of the former two.

On the Mars surface, the US / Japan divisions also figure out something is not right, as just like the Russians they figure out that the Terra Formar leader they killed during the first night was smarter then humans even.  As they approach Annex, it turns out the Chinese division has taken control of it, and are after Akari and Michelle to take back to Earth as samples together with the Terra Formar captives, out to kill all the rest.  They have faked everything, including the animals used for their Mosaic Organ surgeries, which is why they survived despite their apparent low MARS rankings.

But the US / Japan division manages to escape their trap, thanks to the intervention of the Russian division and their halucinatory powers.   On Earth, Japan tosses it's trumpcard on the table, forcing the other nations to pick sides...

So, the politics behind the mission and the greater plan came into play in this volume, so now to get volume 8 to see where it goes from here onwards...
