Stargate Origins

So far the latest series in the Stargate franchise, this is a special 10 episode series of about 10 minutes per episode.

It was later on put together into the movie Stargate Origins: Catherine, which can be found on DVD sales these days.

The story takes place in 1938, as a yougn Catherine Langford investigates the stargate together with her father in a warehouse near Giza.  But the nazi commander Brucke arrives, taking them hostage and having realised how to operate the gate he takes professor Langford with him through it.

Catherine gives chase together with british captain Beal and his aide Wasif, arriving in a desert on the planet Abydos.  The planet is under control of the demi-god Aset, ressurected by Ra but now plotting rebellion against him.  After fighting her guard Serqet, they meet a young native called Kasuf.  They try to reactivate the gate, but can't find the last symbol, realising this might the destination symbol, which they don't know.

Brucke shows Aset a nazi propagande film and makes a deal with her, exchanging thousands of slaves for naquadah metal.  After she causes a bit of a distance between her and her loyal local subjects, Brucke interferes by executing his henchman.  Catherine in the meantime has befriended the locals, and is taken to a cave where she discovers the last symbol, before destroying it to prevent the germans of learning it.  Aset, interpreted by Langford, breaks with Brucke who is killed by his last henchman, and she strikes a bargain with Langford and Catherine to wipe their memories before sending them back.

But Serqet has betrayed Aset, and Ra arrives.  Beal falls in a fight with Serqet when sending the others back, as Ra takes his vengeance on Aset by blasting her temple and the village from orbit, killing her and her subjects.  On Earth, the stargate is taken by the US government, but Catherine still holds a strange piece of metal she decides to keep, as she has a feeling she will encounter the stargate again in the future.

So this was an enjoyable mini-series from the franchise, and I actually like how some ends are tied up for the actual main film and series, like the destruction of the symbol or the mind-wipe to not have a plothole of someone having been there already.
