Detective Pikachu

And there we have it, the hype of 2019, Pikachu hit the big screen based on the videogame of the same name.

And I only saw the movie recently with Noshi, because after seeing the trailers, I had one HUGE reservation about it, one I'll tell at the end.

The story tells the tale of how 21 year old insurance worker Tim Goodman learns about the death of his father, an investigator.  Tom, not owning any Pokemon as it wasn`t really his thing, meets his father's police partner, a deerhat clad Pikachu... that talks.

He travels to Ryme City as per the request of his late father and learn more about what happened, bringing him into contact with a mysterious gas that turns Pokemon in a rabbit state, as well as an underground arena where Pokemon still fight each other, something no longer legal in the city.

When the founder of Ryme City contacts Tim, he learns that his father isn`t dead, but taken by an advanced form of MewTwo, while the founder's son is actually behind the development of the gas.  Tim and Pikachu go on investigating this, and face the MewTwo, uncovering a strange plot and the real reason why Pikachu is understandable by Tim...

Now, it is a good movie, and it is greatly made.  The Pokemon look fantastic BUT... my grievance still stands.  Ryan reynolds doing the voice of our beloved rodent might not be the best choice, especially as, well, the little electric hamster can be quite quirky in his remarks, even borderlining imho for a children's flick.  I just couldn't stop having the feeling it wasn`t really ryan, but Deadpool voicing the cute little one.

But all in all, it was an enjoyable experience to watch!
