Based on the dutch novel by Tonke Dragt from 1962, Netflix brought forth The Letter to the King, a 6 part young adult fantasy series this march.
So I was curious, and in need of a "fix of fantasy" in order to perhaps gain some inspiration for my DnD campaign in the making, that I watched the series with Noshi.
Now, don`t think this series as a "junior Game of Thrones", it is allowed for age 7+ so the violence is "clean" and it handles around a group of teenagers who find themselves in the middle of an important quest.
Tiuri is the adopted son of a noble lord, but hails originally from the southern lands of Eviellan, lands where magic was openly embraced and which the northern kingdoms finally conquered by the hands of prince Viridian.
There is a prophecy that a Great Warrior from the North shall arrive, and Viridian thinks he is this one, draining the magic from the shamans he defeated to empower his own.
In the meantime, Tiuri encounters the Black Knight, dying after being assaulted by the Red Riders and he gets enthrusted with delivering a letter to the King, which tells that Viridian has to be stopped. When Tiuri's dad is murdered, he flees the kingdom in order to try and deliver the letter, and is soon joined by the girl Lavinia, who hails from a small land and coaches him in developping his powers.
Joined by other young knights, he stes out on the path to save the kingdom and even fullfil the prophecy... but is he actually the hero of legend, or is there another?
It was an enjoyavle series, and one I can easily watch again in a year or 5 with Lord Ipsqueeck as it is indeed made and aimed to that audience. But never the less, it was a good filler for two evenings of binging during the lock-down.
