Netflix seems to be developping a knack of taking innocent childhood series and turn them into something far darker and grim.
Like they did with Sabrina, and now with the innocent cartoon faeries of Winx Club.
The result is a 6 part high school magical fantasy drama, with some serious issues being tackled like switches at birth, betrayal and conspiracies.
In other words, good binging material...
Bloom, a faerie with firepowers, is recruited into a school in the Other World to learn and harness her powers. In a fit of rage, she had severly burned her mother and almost put the house in ashes, and as such the principal came to collect her.
But not all is as it seems when creatures called the Burned Ones start turning up, as well as a sinister student called Beatrix. Slowly the girls start to unravel a mystery involving genocide and it's subsequent cover up, meaning they can`t be certain who to trust anymore.
And all the while, Bloom is piecing together her true heritage, which is something entirely different from the live she believed she had led until then...
A good little series, and while I'm still in a bit of a doubt if I "need" a second season in my life, Noshi certainly liked it.
