The Yin Yang Master: Dream of Eternity

A few weeks ago, Noshi and me sat down to watch this 2hr+ fantasy epos on Netflix, a 2020 chinese film.

Which is one of the great things about Netflix, there are some true gems out there that would never be found pre-streaming services.

This film was a mega budget undertaking, and it shows in the quality.  The CGI and special effects are greatly executed, the story is strong and they had me on the wrong foot as well during the film.

In ages past, a giant evil demon, the Evil Serpent, was captured in the Imperial City by four masters.  Whenever the monster threatens to awaken, the masters travel to the city to reinforce the guardian statues and ward of the evil.

Two of them, Qingming and Boya, immediatly take a dislike to each other due to their opposite views on demons, but when master Hongrue is killed by a Hair Demon, they have to set aside their differences reluctantly and seek a way to protect both the Empress and the newly arrived princess.  When they start to dig deeper though, they find out that not everyone might be what they see when another master, Longye, is killed suspicions fall on either the princess, or the fourth master, He Shouyue, who is a guardian spirit left to guard the empress by Qingming's late master.

But the unthinkable takes place, as it turns out there is not one culprit, but both are involved in a plot to release the Evil Serpent and gain eternal life!

A truly epic movie (and for me the best I`ve seen so far this year), with awesome action scenes, great special effects, a good story line... generally all that is needed for a WOW sort of movie!
