Blue Period volume 5 - Tsubasa Yamaguchi

Time for another volume in my favorite art series, Blue Period.

And with volume 5, we are slowly reaching the end of the first season of the anime, so the journey will be full of new discoveries in the near future.

With the first exam behind them, the class takes a breather by visiting The Bone Museum.  Here, they get an assignment to help them unwind a little, as in three days the results will be announced.  It turns out three in the group passed, Yaguchi amongst them.  He learns that Takahashi also passed the first round exam, as the stress begins for the second round which will require an oil painting, while he still struggles with colours.

Yuka had failed though and took on a job as a hostess.  Yaguchi calls him up and they decide to meet, as he realises if he doesn`t do that now, they will probably never talk to each other again. Yuka puts him in his place, showing him how he always does the right thing without putting himself in that sort of situations, never going the extra mile.  But she is a wreck himself as her parents treat her poorly, going as far as throwing her personal stuff away.

His classmates however make him see what he really should do, and he goes with Yuki on an impulsive trip to the seaside late at night.  Staying overnight, they decide they should draw themselves naked, as to show their true inner selves and frailties to themselves.  This both makes them see what they should do, and rejuvenated Yaguchi picks up his brushes again.

But he is suffering from a bad case of hives, and on his way to the exam his eyes suddenly fail him and he goes through his knees in the stairway...

And so this leaves Yaguchi in a serious predicament, one we will have to see in volume 6 how this plays out, a book that I guess will also end at the same time as the first season of the anime did.  Beyond that, I will be discovering new things in this excellent series as well, so I can't wait!
