Sometimes, it is just great and watch a new show, drenched in good old nostalgia.
And that was something me and Noshi had with the first season of Monkey, so we happily binged season 2 as well.
You see, while it is a clearly low budget affair, and has some serious dodgy acting, the series is giving off such a huge Xena vibe from our youth years that we can just enjoy it for what it is, and not think we are going to see the next Game of Thrones or Sopranos level series.
In this second season, Monkey, Tripitaka, Pigsy and Sandy continue their auest to find the scroll of Creation, but the demon overlords step into the fray to stop them. One in particular, a puppetmaster called Hagfish, steps up to be the main antagonist, even going as far as controlling the other demon lords, as well as cloning Monkey himself into a shadow version. One that can only be defeated by making the ultimate sacrifice!
Will there be a third season? Who knows in this year of Covid 19 and subsequent budget and production cuts amongst many a series. But if there is, we will definitly be watching it once again!
At 10 episodes of 25 minutes each, it's a fast paced story, yet this is just long enough for the episodes to keep their appeal and go for that "just one more" in the couch...
