Your Lie in April

A different type of anime of the ones I normally watch, this "slice of life" series was highly recommended by Noshi to me.

And who am I to ignore anime recommendations?

Disclaimer 1: if you appreciate classical music pieces, you're in for a treat.

Disclaimer 2: all tears that have been shed by your old otaku here are pure imaginations on your part...

Telling the tale of piano virtuoso talent Kousei, he ends in a downward spiral when mom passes away.  This makes him loose his love for his piano in such a manner he can`t hear it anymore.  But then the violinist Kaori walks into his life, stirring it upside down and making him face the music again.

But as he slowly comes out of his recluse, he learns more and more about her.  But she also makes him come to peace with his past, and how his mother was an abusive instructor molding her son in a metronomically acurate pianist at all costs.

But when during a gala concert Kaori doesn`t show up, Kosei remembers the good things about his mother as well and "hears the music" again as he remembers how it is actually a gift, and he returns to his full potential.

However, it soon becomes apparant something is wrong with Kaori, as Kousei learns when teaching his former rival's little sister.  After putting down a stunning performance with her, he convinces Kaori to perform with him just one last time...

Just be prepared to cry a river in the final episode.

A magnificent anime, even though so sad, and yes, disclaimer 2 happened more then once during it's course.  So if you are in for an emotional rollercoaster, definitly give this a watch!

  1. I just read the manga for that!

Lovely, but I do not think I could make it through that last bit again.
