Based on the mid 80's french graphic novels Le Transperceneige, Snowpiercer is the story of an arc train carrying the last of humanity.
And while it spend three years in development hell, the end result was an awesomely good series for sure.
Seven years after a nuclear war reduced Earth to a frozen wasteland, the survivors are constantly travelling the world in a 1001 carriage long train designed by the fabled Mr Wilford, using a perpetual engine. Aboard this huge train, there are social standings between the three classes of carriages, but also the tail which contains stowaways from the day the train departed.
This leads to a tense atmosphere, and when the compartments are in need of a detective, Layton is gathered from the tail to investigate by order of the trains head hospitality Melanie. He uses this opportunity to start organsing a rebellion to make the train equal for all passengers, uncovering that Mr Wilford might not be aboard the train at all and that it has been taken over by others instead.
All of this comes with great sacrifice, both for the tailees as for Layton himself, in order to reach his goal and instal democracy.
And then in the finale a second train appears...
An awesome series gladly renewed for a second season, and one I am looking forward to viewing when it gets released on Netflix later this year.
Highly recommended!
