In this musical drama from 2017, Hugh Jackman takes on the role of PT Barnum, the legendary circusowner.
While it was praised for it's artistic performances and music, it wasn`t that much (to say the least) for accuracy...
Taking place in the mid 19th century, Barnum and his troupe travel the country, performing where they go. However, he craves more, in the first place recognition. He opens Barnum's American Museum, but when ticket sales are slow he is forced to first hire life performers again, and later Philip, a playwright, to make his shows ever more spectacular.
When he becomes the manager of famous swedish singer Jenny Lind during her american tour, and he estranges from his troupe and his family. He almost loses everything as Lind forces herself on him, and his circus is burned down due to protesters and performers clashing. But Philip reaches out and together they make it a joint venture so Barnum can see his daughters grow up.
While these sorts of movies aren`t really down my alley, it was an enjoyable evening watch on the couch with Noshi cuddled up. But that is not to say I now suddenly decided to join a circus ;-)
