Aaaah, what a flashback. The 2002 Codex Chaos Space Marines, made for 3rd edition was the one where the Legions really came into play for the first time.
I obtained the book earlier this year purely out of nostalgia reasons, and to dwindle over how the fluff was back then, and see how it progressed over 15 odd years.
Well, before Dark Imperium not much to be honest. But the great thing as I said in the beginning, was that this was the edition Legion rules started appearing, as well as a heap of "unique" units for the specific legions. Like the "Sonic Predator", which while statwise worse then the standard one, was oooh so fluffy instead.
This book is also the so-called "3.5 edition" for the Chaos Marines, and is seen as the best one they had so far in synergy of the rules and the likes, building on the hotchpotch of the first 3rd edition one where a lot of new rules had been included as well as units, finally differing the evil marines from their vanilla counterparts.
It was a nice stroll down memory lane, and it sits on the shelf between other fluff books now...
