The Tide of War - Seth Hunter

As a lover of the Alexander Kent Bolitho books, this one would be a different experience, and I would be curious how it would compare.

So it was time to set sail and go out on an adventure of naval battle...

Plot

Newly promoted Captain Nathan Peake has been despatched to the Carribean to take command of the British navy's latest firgate, the Unicorn.  Although an impressive vessel, the Unicorn has a daunting history of mutiny - and murder.

On the other side of the Channel, revolutionary authorities have sent the Virginie, the best frigate in the french fleet, on a secret mission to spread rebellion and mayhem from the shores of Cuba to the Mississippi Delta.

As the Unicorn becomes embroiled in an epic duel with the Virginie, Peake is confronted with the seductive charms of Sabine Delatour, witch queen of the Army of Lucumi, and the intrigues of American agent Gilbert Imlay.  But not least, he must battle his own demons as the tide of war sweeps him into the treacherous waters of the Devil's Jigsaw.

What I liked about it

* it's a swift reading, good build up story
* it`s naval Napoleonic (roughly) era, so that`s not bad anyways

What i didn`t like about it

* Eeven though I liked the story, I can`t shake the feeling he drew a lot from Kent`s books, as it at times seems I`ve read it all before
