A fairy tale fantasy movie neither Noshi nor me had heard about, so when it was on flemish television a few weeks ago, we sat down and gave it a watch.
Mind you, the subtitles we had to endure where terrible though as a result, to make it all rhyme in flemish...
Made in 2014, this film ("starring" Johnny Depp, who is in the whole 2hr movie for like 5 minutes) is a filmed adaption of the musical of the same name, and as such most of the movie is being sang (and not by the actual actors). Think a bit Phantom of the Opera in movie style.
The film combines the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Rapunzel into one tale of a childless bakers couple that want to lift a curse on their house in order to get a baby. This curse has been placed by their neighbourly witch years ago when the baker's father stole magical beans from her garden.
In order to lift it, they need to obtain an item from each of the fairy tales, but this results in all the stories intermingling and changing their outcome as people die due to the invasion of the giantess from Jack and the Beanstalk.
It was a fun to watch movie though, and I loved the "Agony" song a lot from the soundtrack, and both Emily Blunt and Meryll Streep put down awesome performances.
