Passengers

Helloooo Stockholm syndrome space epos...

This 2016 space flick is basically a (forced) love story between Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt... and it works on a chemistry level between those two.

The starship Avalon is transporting colonists andcrew members, in hibernation pods, to the planet Homestead II, a journey taking 120 years. Thirty years into its journey, the ship passes through an asteroid field, which causes a malfunction. The malfunction awakens one passenger, mechanical engineer Jim Preston, 90 years early.

He wanders the ship alone for a year, surviving on rations, when he notices Aurora in one of the pods.  Torn between feelings for her, he decides to wreck her life and awaken her, though he doesn`t tell her until the bartender android accidentally reveals it.

But when the ship threatens to be destroyed due to meteor damage (heck, that rock must have been plunked in the engine for almost two years...) they are forced to work together, and she decides for herself she does love him.

So we have two of this moments hottest Hollywood stars facing off in a romantic flick, supported by a very strong Lawrence Fishburn, and a 20 second cameo of Andy Garcia... and that is about it.

However, combined with some very awesome special effects, this movie "works" in that the performance of the two compensates a lot for the plot holes and rather thin story itself.

A romatic, visual spectacle for sure, but not the best sci-fi movie ever made...
