Aaah, what better movie to start the years tally with then a good old 80s adventure action comedy.
Sequel to King Solomon's Mines, the Lost City of Gold has all the great things of that sort of movies... and all the major flaws.
Campy acting by back then big names, like Richard Chamberlain and James Earl Jones. A young blonde helpless sidekick (a young and back then not that famous Sharon Stone), and some idotic henchmen (a guide that sounds like the Swedish Chef from the Muppets), it`s all part of the chamr.
When jessy and Allan are about to leave to america to get married, an old friend arrives in town and tells him before dying about the Lost City of Gold, and how his younger brother is held there. He decides to mount a rescue, but upon finding the city he becomes involved in a civil war as two queens vie for the crown...
The movie, in the style of it's prequel, or films like Romancing the Stone or the Indiana Jones films, has all the "qualities" of the genre in the 80s. Bad special effects, plastic giant snakes, cardboard rockscapes... you name it, it has it.
But what it doesn`t have however, is the sheer amount of fun like the above movies. It`s all to citchy and it hasn`t aged well at all, there are way better things released back in 1986...
But heck, it's the first movie of the backlog for this year, but I fear that'll be it`s only virtue...
