Move over Avengers program, here comes the Patriot program, an old USSR superhero creation program.
The film tells about a team of Soviet superheroes created during the Cold War. The team includes representatives of the different nationalities of the USSR.
Each of the protagonists' superpowers reflect the strengths and traditions of the people of the USSR. There is the teamleader who can control the Earth, a mongol warrior fast as wind with two giant curved swords, an acrobatic lady that can turn invisible and a scientist were-bear with gatling guns.
Yeah, you read that last one right... that alone is reason enough to watch this flick.
When current day Russia is under threat by a mad scientist who augmented himself, and who is taking over the hypermodern, software driven, war equipment, the government has to undertake extreme measures. And those measures are to find and recruit heroes from the old Patriot program.
While their mission gets botched up due to treason in their first outing, they re-equip and re-engage the enemy, in order to save Russia.
Now visually and in the way of storyline telling, this film can hold up to the Hollywood blockbusters to be honest. Okay, a few special effects look a bit dated, but this is a rather limited amount.
Watching a fim in russian (yush, subbed, I`m not that language talented I fear) was a new experience, but I actually liked it a lot.
