Okay, so this was Noshi's pick yesterday evening... and we binged the 6 episodes in a row, only sleeping between 4 and 5.
While I was fine with us going to watch this, as, well, redocats, and she, well, Jason Momoa... this turned out to be a damn fine series.
Following the fur trade and resulting skirmishes in the 17th century Hudson Bay area, Declan Harp is a rebellious furtrader who wants to break the HBC at all costs. Including executing their officers and soldiers, and as such marking him a wanted man.
In the meantime, Lord Benton arrives in Canada with the irish stowaway Michael Smythe, whom he wants to use to infiltrate Harp`s operation.
When Benton starts engineering a plan to put the various corporations against each other, in order to have the HBC swipe ina nd retain it`s monopoly, Michael chooses Declan`s side and plans along with his allies to overthrow Benton and his bit crazy in the coconut Captain Chesterfield.
The series is entertaining and has a sweeping story, not being dragged out due to it being 6 episodes of about 45 minutes. And Momoa isn`t just "brought along" as eye candy who would run around halfnaked all the time showing of his, admitted, impressive body, but actually puts down a very fine performance. He certainly has grown a lot since Stargate...
On the other hand, the character of Pond is just irritating. If you want a historical series ultimate psychotic bad-ass, look no further then Turn's Simcoe, thank you very much. But it was worth the watch, and I doubt it will be long before we binge season 2...
And it offers some great wargame skirmish ideas, I`m definitly looking that way for 2018...
