Me and Noshi finished the second, and sadly last, season of this Netflix original "historical" series.
And we enjoyed it, no matter how against the critics where or how bad the ratings.
In this second season, the threat to Kublai Khan (masterfully played by Benedict Wong) doesn`t come from an outside nation after he conquered China, but from within as one of his adopted sons plots against him.
This goes as far as bringing a Christian Mongol prince, Nayan, and the papal army to Mongolia, to try and oust the Khan of Khans with the help of the House of Ogodei's ruler, Kudai. In the meantime, the series looks at the various machinations going on behind the scenes, as Ahmad masterfully moves the pieces against his father and lord.
It was a lovely season, and while not really historically accurate (who cares, it`s an entertainment show, not a History Documentary), it has some very strong preformances. And how they transform Jinghim from a character you hate in season 1 to perhaps even the most loveable of the whole bunch bar Kublai, is just masterfully executed.
I (well, we) for one find it a real shame it has been cancelled!
