Magestorm

Probably the last book I get finished for 2017, as there aren`t that many bustrips left, and this time it`s one from the Warhammer range written by Jonathan Green.

Published all the way back in 2004, this is one of the novels that lays the seeds of the beginning of the End Times, that thing that trashed the whole Fantasy world and gave us Age of Sigmar instead...

Lord Archaon's dark hordes of Chaos are rampaging across the Old World and all good men of the Empire must heed the call to fight against the encroaching evil.  Standing to the fore is fire wizard, Gerhart Brennend - a loner whose mysterious past is drenched in tragedy.  As the Storm of Chaos approaches the Imperial city of Wolfenburg, a desperate battle looms and blood will be spilled like never before!  Wolfenburg must not fall!

This book, being told from two viewpoints, being of course the titular wizard, but also from that of a wandering Sigmarite priest, is the story of the first sacking of Wolfenburg, capital of Valmir Von Raukov's Ostland province.  From desperate last stands, heroic sorties and gore beastmen rituals, this was for me a fine book actually to read.

A nice one for sure.
