A 3D printed wooden house

 Time to do some in between painting project, before we start the rush of fresh Chaos Dwarf units for the tournaments near the end of the year.

 

And this time, it was a 3D printed house.

 

A building with wooden walls and tatched straw roof, which I glued to the model as it is for mass battles anyways, this is one of those generic style houses that fit about every fantasy setting unless you are running games in the desert.  

 

The detail on the house is nice, with the trunk making the roof centre, some shields and patched up planks on it to make it look not to slick, just a solid, good little house for the tabletop.

 

And now, it's time to use a lot of blue and golds, as I have a bunch to paint still! 

Chaos Dwarf Taurus rider

 The latest model to be finished for my Chaos Dwarfs, a mighty Taurus rider.

 

A 3D print from the excellent Fabelzel line, he will be either my general, or a lone hero skitting around the battlefield on the hunt for small targets on it's own.

 

The thing is, in the Legacy list, only sorcerers can ride the Great and Bale Taurus'ses, but when the Renegade pack is allowed one can also field the "stompy hero" variant, as it was in the good old days.

 

So it is a bit dependant, but never the less I went for the classic Taurus look, red in skin, with the rider of course in the colours of my army.  Over time, I'll be painting up more of my flying brigade, but that will be taking quite some time still.

 

Now to get a bit of work done on the Age of Sigmar Spearhead first... 

Blood Bowl 3D printed Minotaur

 He will already have been seen in game reports, but just for completeness sake a little bit of a closer look at the Blood Bowl Minotaur I'm currently fielding with my team.

 

 

As the Games Workshop one is still out of stock, I found this 3D printed one a while ago on Etsy, and painted him up, like my Bull Centaur, as a stand-in for now.

 

The model of course have been painted in the "team colours" and now stands ready to bash into the opponent lines, frothing at the mouth and rushing in with it's polished up horns for maximum mayhem.

 

The plan is to put him 1 square of the line of scrimmage, then blitz other S5 big guys like ogres for that frenzied S6 bashing.

 

And you could already read how he did bring it off last game...

 

 

TSA Escalation League 2025: The Lady's Wide Hole

 Round 4 and finally we are going above the 1000 points mark, meaning war machines come into play for the Empire of Man army of Marienburg.

 

Which of course I duly added for this month, starting with this lovely bloke.

 

 

From the Sunland range by Highland Miniatures, the Mortar is a personal favorite of mine ever since the days of Warhammer Fantasy Battles 4th edition, aka back when I started playing in 1994.

 

Making use of the large blast template, and albeit a low strength "not under the hole", this still can wreak terrible havoc against the now guaranteed units of 20+ that are starting to be formed.  Just one lucky lobbed shell can turn the entire tide of battle as a result, providing the thing doesn't blow itself up on the first round of course.

Ruined 3D printed chapel

 Chapel church, house... who will tell, as it lies in ruins.

I obtained this nifty little building from Vinted near the end of last year, and finally gotten round to give it some colour.

The benefit of those 3D printed houses is that you can tackle them with craft paints, and scenery loves drybrushing.  I went for three tones of grey, going to a warm finish for the brickworks, while going with a colder finish for the windows as often seen in old churches.

Putting them together, they cover a nice little patch of space, and will be usuable from fantasy to sci-fi, even for world war 2 games as it is pretty regular looking without being to distinctly linked to an era or genre.

 

 

Now onwards to the next project...

Some 3D printed Pillars

 A bit of an inbetween project has been completed today, in the form of some scatter terrain.

Now, I had these pillars already for a long time, but never really gotten round to painting them.

So, with the plans decently in motion for some serious solo gaming next year, I opted to finally do them to serve, well, as scatter terrain but also instead of trees very often.  To that end I based them on grassy underground, to litter them around the tabletop in games of Rangers and the likes.

 

 

And as such, I took my Amsterdam acrylics and my drybrushes, and painted away on them, resulting in 14 nice pillars to be spotted in future games!

 

 

Now to actually work out some scenario's, I can already lift a little tip of the veil, and the first game these will be seen in will be the start of my new Shadow Deep campaign, called "Slavers of Shadow Deep"!

 

On which more info will follow soonishly!

Unboxing Chaos Dwarf suited figures from Miniatures Forge

 Sometimes, the Facebook and Instagram spams lead to nice discoveries.

And this is one of them, a polish RPG miniature creator called Miniatures Forge.

I found them as such from a post that popped up in one of the various FB groups I was in, and went to have a look to see if they had some models suited for my ever grwoing (again) army, and they sure did.

Now, you can select the scale they are printed in, so I opted ofc for 32mm as most models are heroic scaled, and the option of "no base" as they will go in my forces for rank-and-file gaming.  That meant they came to about 5.50 euro each per figure, not to bad for a heap of characters.  

So let's look which brave (cough) dwarves joined the ranks of the Dawi Zharr:

 

 

I like the quality a lot, and have my eyes on the manufacturer already for some more figures to bolster my ranks, something I`ll get round to ordering in a few weeks I guess.

Now to first clean off the cotton of these guys and galls...

Gundam 1/400 resin Type 61 tank

 And here we have it, the first models painted of the sample box I received for MechaTop back in february: two Type 61 battle tanks.

The mainstay of the Earth Federation ground forces, these tanks are tiny in 1/400 scale, as they rightly are so next to 18 meters tall Gundams of course.

They have been cast in resin, and the STL's will be part of the upcoming second Kickstarter they are planning to launch, which is great news as they would be very hard to find otherwise.  The detailing on the little tanks is perfect for a model of about 2 square centimeters after all.

Colour scheme wise, well, they are what they are, grey tanks, so no flashy paint job on that part though.

Now to eagerly await the kickstarter, back it and then contact one of my buddies with a resin printer for some mass-printing...

Unboxing the Rise from Resin Red Dragon

 In april, I was the lucky winner of a red dragon from Rise from Resin, a new company that holds some licenses for 3D printing your figures.

The model, created by Cursed Forge, is a nice beastie, and if you want to spend 5 minutes of your life, you can see the unboxing here:

The print is nice and crisp, and thanks to the heavy base the model will be stable on the table, always nice with big dragons who tend to have balance issues due to their wings.  If you like through their website HERE, you will find it priced around 25 GBP I believe.

So give them a look, they have nice stuff on the page and he is an alround friendly guy to boot.

AHPC11: Dungeons and Denizens

 Every year, near the end of the challenge, I end up with one of these posts: literally a dump post of all the things began, yet not finished for this year.

And it is no different in this edition, so labelling it Dungeons and Denizens, it is quite a hotchpotch of things painted in between entries, with the solemn goal of  "who knows if I need it in DnD one day" kind of stuff.

As well as some terrain, being mostly 2x2 dungeon tiles but also a rather big statue, there is some variety of beasts in here.

Repainted clix models, some metal guy on bails of hay of which I got no clue where I ever obtained him from, all that sort of loose stuff.

Which also makes it a bit of a puzzle for the points calculation.  I guess 10 points is sufficient for all the tiles and the statue, it goes for about 6 cubic inch, but the paint jobs aren`t that hard for those.  The beasties are all 28mm ones, so that is 6 of them for 30 points, making 40 points total?

AHPC11: Ptolemy, Silver Saint of Sagitta

 For those who follow my blog, it will be no suprise that I like anime perhaps even more since wargaming.

And that all started back in 1986 with Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque on the french channel TF1, a series known even better perhaps under it's japanese name Saint Seiya.

It's also on Netflix btw now, just ignore that crap 3D monstorsity Netflix made, that is just horrible and in no way representative of both the story and the mythos of this mythology inspired series.

Now recently, a spanish company named Nonsense Miniatures started to make resin 3d printed "Constellation Warriors" models, well, the Saints actually, and one of their first 4 figures is this one, Ptolemy, Silver Saint of Sagitta, scaled at about 36mm.  They also have a free to download beta ruleset for them on their website.

 

 

So I painted up him as the first one, don`t ask me why because even if his appearance in the anime was rather short, he was the one that mortally wounded Athena, instigating the race across the twelve Houses of the Zodiac up to the Grand Pope's palace.

AHPC11: The Tomb: Mausoleum

 For the entry of the next room in this epic quest through the Chambers of Challenge, I literally went for what the quest says: a tomb.

A perfect chamber to get some scenery piece done, I printed up a small mausoleum and accompanying graves to build a piece of CD terrain (am I a year late here?).

The model has been scaled to fit the Shire games I`m planning, because unfortunatly Hobbits don`t live for ever either, even though they have long lifespans.

And now onwards to the third level!

AHPC11: Decorating the Dungeon

 A small entry of essentials from me for this next update on my journey to the "1000" in that I painted up some dungeon furniture this week.

It is essential in such a way that while I have already printed quite some exterior scatter material for (solo) gaming, I realised I barely have any interior pieces.

To that end, I am going to be running my Ender 3 on that job (after I replaced the nozzle, this one has seen it's time, overextruding as a result) and make sure to get a lot of small stuff done, as well as piles of extra dungeon tiles.

Because who knows, this pandemic might actually end this year and I can get that planned DnD campaign going at last, only with a delay of 1.5 years.  Which is still faster then your average public transportation bus here in Belgium...

AHPC11: The Hatchery: Dragon Hatchling

 Entering the second level of our decent into the Chambers of Challenge, we arrive in a large room called The Hatchery.

 

And the theme of the setting is "something that came out of an egg".

While my initial idea was to paint up some raging dwarf shouting Leeeeroy Jenkinssssss I instead went for another model.  Rummaging through my pile of figures I printed up for DnD (delayed due to you know what), I came across this dragon hatchling.

Now, there is no particular reason the little beastie is of the Blue Dragon variety other then that I was working on another entry with blues in it mostly, so that's rather easy going.

And as such, for this chamber I have a single 28mm figure painted up, and the journey continues onwards!

A whole lot of walls

 Well, this certainly was a good printing and painting project...

In order to play the next scenario of Rangers of Shadow Deep, I'd need to make 3 rooms of 18 by 18 inch each, which would take a long time printing all those tiles.

So instead, as it is a lower level of an abandoned tower, I decided to go for wall sections of 10cm each to "line out" the three rooms.  In my story, the tower is already so old the floors have long rotted away and grass has grown inside as a result.

 

Adding to that, these 40 wall sections (meaning I now have 50 printed and painted) will be exellent for use in other games as well, both fantasy as historical, as they are just that: simple, basic grey stone walls.  

Now to just print up and paint all the needed inside decorations and doors, and I can get my adventurers going in one of the coming weeks!!

Crystal Core

Today another piece I got from 3D Hexes, the Crystal Core.

 

This nice little piece is available as part of the "Yellow Bundle", which is also a pay what you want bundle, so if you want, it is essentially free.

 

Printing it at my (slow) settings takes around 6 hours, but as I said before I got it a very slow travel speed and all to prevent less chance of misprints while the head moves.

 

 

The model itself is really nice, with the runes etched in the circular platform, while the crystal is well represented coming out of the brick work.

 

I went for a warm grey stonework like the Lion Walls I printed up from them earlier, and then a blue crystal for some good contrast.

Ruined House

The latest print I finished painting, this is a Ruined House by Mini Makers.

The files where free a while ago as an offer I found through a Facebook group, and I set out to build it.

The set contains three pieces: the largest has the door frame, then there is a straight wall with a window pane, and finally a corner with an oven.

The three pieces all have wooden floors, adding some nice contrast to the painting job instead of just greys.

A lovely little project, and a great model for sure, with the ease of being able to put the ruins apart a bit more or less on the table to suit the collection and the game.

The Lion Wall

I can recommend babies to anyone wanting to get their scenery painted up to a tabletop standard!

Recently, I bought a whole set of files from 3D Hexes his webstore, as those are excellent models and print support free!

And the first things I printed, are already 3 of the Lion Wall sections.  Now, with over 20 files (they each come in the set twice, once like this, and once overgrown with vines), I thought them excellent for an Osgiliath table as well as for Dungeons and Dragons or Rangers of Shadow Deep like gaming.

A five colour drybrush later, and they really look great for the table, even when printed on a near stock Ender-3 setting, and supportless makes a big difference in cleaning works for sure.

I have quite some more files of him, and I will definitly be printing those up over time!

A new stack of Dungeon Tiles

During orktober, I have been printing mostly movement trays and dungeon tiles, and now the tiles are painted up.

Part of the "Castle Range" from Printable Scenery, the 2x2 floor tile is what I`ll be churning out mostly as before.

 

And as such, another stack of 13 tiles have been finished, so the complete collection so far can start accomodating for medium and larger sized rooms, though i still want to print and paint up quite a bunch of various tiles.

And they can be used for Rangers of Shadow Deep, as I`m slowly preparing for the Tor Varden storyarc mission...

A 3D printed River

Printed with the next scenario of Rangers of Shadow Deep in mind, I went on and printed myself a river on the Ender 3.

The files themselves are from Thingiverse, and I went for the straight sections of 20cm each, and two smaller 10cm ones including one with a fording.

The river was painted up with Amsterdam acryllics, lovely stuff for terrain works.

Now, this all means I now have 1m80 of river sections, good enough for the scenario.  Over time I will be adding some bends and such to the collection, but that isn`t a priority at the moment at all.
