Knives of the Crone

 The second warband for Warhammer Underworlds to be completed this year, and of course, as mentioned in the quarterly overview last week, I'm sticking to aelves alone.

 

Okay, bar of course the Blood of the Bull...

 

And this time, I went for perhaps one of the most complex to master of the Aelven warbands: the Knives of the Crone.  While their bounty and wounds mirror their rivals from Myari's Purifiers all the way back to Beastgrave, where the Lumineth are baseline easy to master, these are... well... far more complex with their Prophecy table.

 

And to add some more layer even to them when I'll take them along this year, I will field them with Realmstone Raiders and Reckless Fury, for even more tracking shennanigans!  

 

I went for a purple and red clothing and armour, to give some old school Dark Elves meets Daughters of Khaine vibe.  To add contrast to their dark cloaks and raven feathers, I went for a light blueish gray for their hairs.

 

While opinions on the sculpts are divided, I must say I like them, and they look better when painted up (which was the same with Kamandora for that matter on the paintjobs I've seen on those) and they do emit that visciousness that comes with the army and fluff for certain.

 

Now to see how they play, as I'll be starting to try them out one of these weeks for certain! 

 

 

Unboxing Morgwaeth's Blade-Coven

 Ever since this Daughters of Khaine warband was teased for season three of Warhammer Underworlds, Beastgrave, I just wanted to have it.  

Because face it, who doesn`t want to play (pun intended) with a bunch of goth girls in steel bikini's?

Now, Covid hit and not only was their release pushed back, it also wrecked the WHU event calendar, so it is even doubtfull as it stands I can get them into season 3, let alone season 4.  On the plus side, ever since Beastgrave the "unique" cards, aka those that don't cycle out, are really top of the line to allow bands an even longer lifespan without rebuilding decks from zilch, at most a card or two to cycle out...

 

 

 

The box comes with some gorgeous art work at the front (though the poor fifth girl is seemingly forgotten), while the back features the contents in glorious technicolor.

Opening the box, we get the two sprues, molded in a deep purple, which contains all the parts for the warband models, as well as the clear assembly guide. 

The models are push-fit, but never the less I went to war on them with my faithfull Revell Contacta Professional, the best friend of every plastic kit to be assembled!

As such I assembled the models, and once again impressed by the very high quality of the casts.  Don`t be to brutal though cutting the parts of the sprues, being elves their armes and such are on the thinner side and a bit fragile if you use to much force!

I especcially like the Hag Queen herself, as well as her slithering companion, but perhaps the best model for me is the lowly warrior bending through her knees as to jump forward and slid your throat!

There are two packs of cards in the boxed set, one being the unique cards for the warband, containing not only the warrior cards themselves, but also ploys, upgrades and objectives.  The artwork on them is once again of a high quality, depicting the girls.

 

The second pack is the universal cards one, that can be fitted into all other warbands as long as the season permits it for matched play, but of course that isn`t an issue for your casual games!

I really think these Expansion packs, coming in around 25 euro, are great value for money considering all the contents: a warband of usually between 3 to 6 models (of course, there are exceptions, I`m looking at you Zarbag!) and about 60 high quality cards for deckbuilding.

So yes, an great release and I can`t wait to paint them up and field them on the table!
