What better way to prepare for The Five Armies tomorrow with the GF then to rewatch last year`s instalment this afternoon, the Desolation of Smaug.
And what better way then to do this with the 30+ minutes longer Extended Edition?
Like with the original trilogy, the longer movies actually make more sense as some dialogues are longer and more detailed, like the ones between The Master and Alfrid, or between Tauriel and Kili.
But there are also longer sequences, like the first meeting between Gandalf and Thorin in Bree and the send-off by Beorn, where we learn more about the battle of Moria and the stirrings in Dol Guldur respectively. This makes some things to make `more sense` and improve the movie, though not as blatant as with the Two Towers, whose cinematic version was the worst of the three, but with his extended version became the best of the series, and that is including the current movies!
And of course, there is now the whole Thrain storyline included, as Gandalf finds him in Dol Guldur, and who was craftely cut out from the cinematic version in some scenes as well, great addition for the BluRay!
And now, we start preparing for WAR!
