X-Men Apocalypse

Well, the latest of the movies, based on the comic book series I grew up with, and I really liked it.

Sure, there is the whole Marvel / Marvel issue with the movies, so we probably won`t see them with the Avengers (though there are rumours... and remember Spidey!)... but still.

Plot

After 5000 years, the first mutant, Apocalypse, has reawakened and is bound on destroying the earth and subjugate the survivors under his control.  To this end, he recruits his Four Horsemen, in the film being Magneto, Angel (love how he changed into Archangel), Storm and Psylocke.

On the other side, we have the Xavier Institute, and Professor Charles has to face off the thread with the help of Moira McTaggert, Beast, Mystique, Havoc and the young mutants Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler and Quicksilver.  And a small helping claw from Wolverine...

When Apocalypse kidnaps Xavier in order to transfer his consciousness to him, and as such be able to control all of man- and mutantkind, the X-men must intervene.  It takes in the end the combined powers of the team, the betrayal to their master of Magneto and Storm, AND the awakening of the Phoenix Force to stop him.  While both sides take personal loss in the form of Havoc and Archangel, the world is saved in the end, and the training of a real dedicated team of X-Men.

Opinion

The merge of the "First Class" and the original movies was done nicely in the previous movie, and we continue in the, errrrrrm, new continuity with this flick.

Like I said, I like this movie.  I love Fassbender for one, and while it didn`t truly follow the comics, it was still a good action entertainment movie to see on a lazy saturday afternoon.

The special effects where well done, I liked the performance of the cast members even though some characters barely got any personal development, for one I didn`t mind "yet another Wolverine moment" and well, even though Apocalypse had more questions opened then resolved.  But I confess, having knowledge of the comics did help to connect some dots in his story...

And it had Psylocke... (sorry, boys will be boys)
