Snowpiercer season 3

The train races back across the globe in this third series of the Netflix adaptation.

Now, with season 2 having been far less intresting then the first one, we stepped into the third one cautiously as such... and Noshi dropped out after episode 2, myself having put it on hold for over a year before starting to watch it again.

After stealing the engine in the season 2 finale, Layton and his team are gathering more evidence that the world is heating again.

But this is of course not something befitting the powerhungry Wilford, who still gives chase with Big Alice now pushing Snowpiercer.  He has reinstalled a caste system, but is faced with a secret resistance trying to sabotage his every move.  In the meantime, Layton and his team find an actual survivor on the surface!

Wilford in the meantime is building an EMP weapon to put Layton out of commission, causing Ruth to give herself up.  This allows the resistance to destroy the weapon before it can be put in action.  Luring Big Alice into a railyard, Snowpiercer having lost four cars due to attacks by Wilford, several of the revolutionaries are tortured by Kevin.  They manage to cut of Big Alice's escape route, forcing them to surrender and return control of the whole train to Layton and his crew.  After a vote, the train starts the perilous journey to the Horn of Africa where Asha survived, but on the way come across cars disconnected from Big Alice.  Inside are the victims of Wilford's culling.  The crew leaders are struggling though with their inner feelings.

While Zarah gives birth to her's and Layton's babygirl, the first baby ever born on the train, Layton becomes the target of terrorist attacks.  These have been orchestrated by Pike, who thinks Ruth, the woman he loves, would be a better leader. This leads to a bitter confrontation, fueled by festering wounds of the past, and finally Layton overcoming Pike in a knife fight.  But he collapses due to a concussion he has suffered.

During his comatose state, he dreams he is part of a resistance led by Wilford on a dystopian Snowpiercer.  In the real world, his friends are trying to get through to him with the help of Miss Audrey.  Wilford in the meantime has become convinced that New Eden does exist after his assault.  He reveals to Alex he picked up a signal when Snowpiercer was half a continent away, originating from France.  He believes it comes from Melanie, and he wants the train to change course.

They discover an alternate track of a maintenance vehicle leading back to the hangar Melanie was left, but it's a vehicle without life support so she may still have perished.  Never the less, they try to catch up to the vehicle.  But as they travel after it, they have to pass a cloud of toxic volcanic ash.  the ash gets inside due to a broken scrubber, and Asha sacrifices herself to close it, her dying words renewing Layton's sense of purpose.

They manage to catch up to the service vehicle Melanie is riding in, taking her back on board.  But soon she learns the data for New Eden is wrong, and announces this to the train, causing a severe conflict between those loyal to her, and those to layton.  She seeks the aid of Wilford, and even though he agrees to step down, he soon begins his manipulating games again.  But it is all a set up by her and Layton, and Wilford is put in her service vehicle and left behind.

The passengers get a choice: remain on Snowpiercer as it continues his circumventing of the globe as a train of science and no social standings under Melanie, or board Big Alice with Layton to try and make the dangerous pass to New Eden.  As the train splits, Big Alice nearly derails in the valley where it is supposed to be warmer, only to actually find water and a warmed up micro-climate!

Three months later, Melanie on board Snowpiercer witnesses an explosion in their direction...

So, season three really redeemed itself after the second season, and now let's bring on the fourth!  Though I must admit, I hope that will be the last one, as the train really has been running it's course and there isn`t much to tell anymore I guess.

So let's hope it goes to the station with a strong next season!
