Mockingjay Part 1 - First Impressions

Also known as the The Twitter Games or something alike...

So they`ve cut the final movie in 2 and release it a year apart?  Great marketing plan, and so I went with Nemesis today to watch it.

And boy, does that movie suck...

Of course, you`re watching this `high spectacle` movie on a big screen with big expectations, and a more detailed review and more solid impression is for the DVD release, but my first impressions left me severly disappointed.

I refused to read the book before I saw both movies, to avoid the mild let down experienced by the previous two movies vs books, but I`m going to come back on that.  I love the story and the concept of the franchise, and this flick is not something that leaves me wanting more.

You see, the whole first part is about reawakening `angry Katniss` in a war of propaganda between the newly revealed District 13 versus the Capitol.  This is done to by having Katniss see the horrors of what president Snow does, record that and broadcast to rally the other districts.  The Capitol responds by bringing up Peeta and have him beg for stopping the war and the horrors these incidents cause.

It`s like a lover`s quarrel over social media these days.

For the rest, the movie adds some more layers on the love triangle between Katniss, Peeta and Gale, breaks down some good characters from macho Finnick to cry baby Finnick, and Hoffman delivers in what is one of his final roles before his untimely death.

But no, all in all I feel they could have cut this whole vehicle down from almost 2 hours to about 45 minutes to an hour, and stick it to the hopefully more spectacular second part, to make one big 3 hour movie instead of two 2 hour movies for me.

It was just, well, boring and slow for a movie from a high paced franchise of films...

PS: isn`t it actually Katniss`s own fault for the deaths of all the people in the Distirct 8 Hospital?  She shoots down the plane, it crashes into the other and both go down on top of the medical facility...
