The first completed unit for the Escalation League, these are made with Warlord Games models from their Pike & Shotte Italian Wars line.
Hailing from the set "Landsknechts with Missile Weapons", this small regiment of 10 handguns will be one of the four initial troop units in the force.
Certainly, they are less beefy then pure fantasy models, and scale 28mm makes them a bit to the smaller side. But this is compensated by an important factor for what is after all, a side project: price. At 30 models, and as such 3 full units for my force over the length of the league, for 26 euro I'm not bothering about being half a head shorter.
The regiment has been dubbed the "Blackplumes" as I painted all the feathers on their hats black. This is done to distinguish them on the battlefield from a second unit that will be painted up at a later stage, and whose plumes will be in all probability be painted white.
Back in the days of Mordheim, the Marienburger warband, which is the city my force is based on, was yellow, blue and red. I decided to go for a beige for the yellow instead though, not only for ease of painting but yellow being a colour for the "rich" historically, not for the rank and file. Blue and red was then crossed over arms and legs to give the army that extravert look.
Another benefit of pure 28mm, is that you have LOTS of space on the 25mm square bases, giving an easy line up on the battlefield as a result.
So that is the first of the four infantry regiments done for the initial 500 points list, time to go to the next ones!
