Well, I know the series wasn't that big a success, but who can resist watching some childhood fantasy nostalgia?
Not this guy for sure!
Taking place several years after the events of the 1988 movie, Sorsha, the daughter of the defeated Queen Bavmorda, has married Madmartigan and has two children, Airk and Kit. But Madmartigan has mysteriously disappeared, and a new threat called the Gales attack the kingdom of Tir Asleen, kidnapping Airk at a reception that would arrange a marriage between Kit and prince Graydon to unify the lands. A rescue party of Kit, Graydon, a kitchen maid named Dove whom Airk is in love with, the knight in training Jade and the rogue Thraxus Boorman set out. They cross the Barrier, where there guide, a knight called Kase, is killed by Bone Reavers. They escape and meet the sorcerer Willow, who reveals that Dove is actually Elora Danan and that Airk is being held by the Withered Crone beyond the Shattered Sea, in a place called the Immemorial City.
Elora Danan was refused training by Willow in the past by order of Queen Sorsha, who wanted for her to just have a normal life instead of being forged into a weapon. Willow joins them on their quest, while a party send after them by the queen, led by the knight Ballantine, has set out to meet them. But Ballantine has been infected by the Gales in the attack and is turning into a Lich like servant. They catch up on Elora and kidnap her, but she leaves a trail by unknowningly using her magic. Willow and his party intercept them, and while Graydon gets infected, and Jade mercy kills her former mentor while Kit and Boorman set out to find the Lux Arcana from a wererat infested tomb.
The group has to take refuge for a while in Bavmorda's haunted and abandoned castle of Nockmaar, where he will try to exorcise the Lich from Graydon. The others suffer from visions in the haunted place, as Graydon breaks free from the ritual and tries to finish the sacrifice of Elora, but is stopped by the heroes and the Lich banished from him. As the Gales attack them, the party escapes into the Wildwood where they are captured by Bone Reavers led by Scorpia, who reveals she and Jade are actually sisters, and that Boorman used to be her lover.
After the truth of Jade is learned, they throw a party in her honour, involving truth plums, causing Elora to learn Willow defeated Bavmorda through dumb luck, as Kit is grabbed by trolls who attack the settlement. They bring her and Willow to their underground city of Skellin, where they meet Allagash, a knight of Madmartigan, who claims Boorman betrayed them in a quest to obtain a mythical armour. As the group reunites, they retrieve the Kymerian armor and the sword of madmartigan, as Kit learns her father went through a portal to confront the Wyrm. During their escape, Kit sinks through the floor, making Elora to finally control her powers to save her.
Airk in the meantime, wandering the empty city, meets a young womand in her cell. This is apparently Lily of Cashmere, a princess kidnapped long ago to this place where time seems to flow differently. The heroes travel across the Shattered Sea with the help of a mudmander pulled carriage, as Graydon discovers he has magical powers himself. In the City, Airk is seduced by Lily, and when the others arrive they encounter a changed Airk.
Lili turns out to be the Crone, and she has shown Airk the truth about a new age under the rule of the Wyrm. Kit receives a vision from her father, telling her to be the shield of Elora, and in the following fight Graydon falls, causing Elora to use her powers and kill the Crone. They depart for home, seeking to honour Graydon's memory, but he awakens in the realm of the Wyrm still alive. He meets the Wyrm, who looks just like Elora, as she asks him to help her usher in the new age...
In a mid credit scene, it is seen that a book labelled volume 1 is put alongside two other tomes, volumes 2 and 3, which where intended to be more seasons, but alas the series has been cancelled by Disney+. So perhaps it didn't capture that Willow magic as well as the original film, this was still a fairly ok fantasy series and might have upped in later seasons. But now, it will remain at this closure and just be a fun little sidestep for the fantasy watchers I guess.
