White Dwarf 493

Time to have a look at that venerable of hobby magazines: the White Dwarf, and it is issue 493 (which I received for free) on the menu this time.

Now, this is already rather old, and before the new edition of Age of Sigmar, so some things might no longer be relevant, yet still fun to flick through and look at some of the eye-candy.

Funny thing though, there is a Tyranid on the cover, yet the main title is about a narrative campaign for Age of Sigmar...

After the regular opening articles (the Editorial, Contact and the likes), we start with an exploration of the Realm of Aqshy in Age of Sigmar, and how it isn't all about fire and flame on that plane of existence.  We move into the Bunker pages then, where the origin of the narrative campaign is explained, and the monthly Bunker challenges are laid down, before getting the full campaign rules.

We also get the special scenarios of the month for Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar and a set of rules for WarCry, the Sundered Scales.  Some Basic Training follwos, before we go and paint some Tyranid critters.

As we then enter the Age of Sigmar section of the magazine, we get more expanded rules for the campaign touched on in the Bunker section, with the battleplans and all.  We then get a short story of Callis and Toll, before we reach the most fun article for myself, about Idoneth Deepkin conclaves with a lot of eye candy.

Courage and Cruelty bring two new warbands to Warcry, with the Kruleboyz and Flameseekers.  It of course comes with full Quests and all for both of them, as well as all the necessary tables to include them into narrative campaigns.

Jumping into the grim future of Warhammer 40k, we begin with the Tale of Four Warlords as armies are being expanded upon.  We then get some rules for the Tome Keepers chapter of Space Marines, before having a look at the background of Space Marine jumppacks.

The battle report for this issue is for Legions Imperalis, the new "epic" of the GW universe (now bring back Warmaster!)  and then some rules for Horus Heresy crossover campaigns to tie in with the setting.

The magazine is then rounded out with some Horror fiction, and a look what goes on Inside the Studio.

Not a bad issue, but personally there wasn't to much in there for me.  The Idoneth article for some inspiration, and the Warcry Sundered Scales stood out a bit for me to be honest.
