So, time to try a far more casual build, and the deck I will be taking along to Benelux Clash in two weeks, for the first time.
Because now that I don't have to content for a Golden Ticket anymore this year, I can sit back and enjoy playing some bands and deck combinations I wouldn't consider normally.
Aka, non-infiltration aggro builds.
I decided to go for Myari's Purifiers for this build, as ever since painting them last year I only took them along twice for some friendly games, and the deck was build with the new Nexus of Power coupled with that not often favoured Hunting Grounds. Yes, another test of my trigger-happy nerves to not rush into the other half, but try to stay in my half instead...
Facing me was Dennis, one of the new players at the club, and I mostly spend time teaching him some of the fineries of the game. Personal tricks, like when to keep and when to give off the first turn, or things like which tokens are most intresting to flip when facing Nexus. He faced me with The Emberwatch, bringing along Blazing Assault and Reckless Fury, and so we deployed to fight it out.
The Emberwatch opted to go first, something that played into my hand as I could immediatly score Claimed that way for some early glory, though Senaela rather quickly burned through her aetherquartz. But inspiring as a result.
As the Emberwatch closed in, but failed to do any damage at all due to a combination of bad attack rolls and excellent defence rolls, Myari took the lead after the first round with 5-1 and all but my leader inspired.
Crippling Blow hamstringed Ardorn in the first activation (huzzaah for not even having to have a succesful attack to trigger the Move token misery), as the Purifiers had the initiative, and the aelves stood firm as they came close to attack.
Myari dodged around the stormcasts, tickling away at them with his attack as some minor wounds where caused on his forces.
Until the less subtler work of Bahannar rattled Farasa after a well placed hammer to her head, and the Purifiers took a strong lead, extending it to 13-1 after scoring Pinned and Lead by Example. I had gambled that he had either Bloody Momentum or Arena Mortis in hand, and he actually had both, duly discarding them as he realised I wouldn't be charging out anyways thanks to my archers 5 hex range.
In the third turn, the Emberwatch took the initiative again, and Ardorn charged... but missed, and Myari profited big from his quartz token for that second save dice. Now it was Farasa's turn however to be hampered by getting a move token thanks to Poor Footing, shutting down his chances for Unrelenting Massacre.
Ailenn joined the fray after Bahannar had smashed Ardorn into the ground, taking the risk of striking with her grievous upgrade on Farasa.
As the blade sliced through the Stormcast (this was that one time unfortunatly for Dennis that a 3 dice roll came up double crit and a success, so he couldn't save her on Stand Fast), the last of the Emberwatch fell to the Lumineth elegance, and the game ended on a 21-1 score.
I'm proud of myself in that I didn't get over the center line, nor charged out once, but it must say Dennis had some bad luck on his dice rolls as well. The deck functioned well, perhaps one or two tinkerings might still be undertaken before the clash, as the 2 dice, 2 damage baseline they sport even with inspired does make damaging opponents a steady job. But there isn't really a "spike" in their line, which is also why I took them for this build, so this might struggle against high defence solid offence builds who don't are unlucky on their dice...
Still, I have some time left to test the deck a bit further...
