Lego Build: 41559 Paladum

In this days build report, we have the third and final one of the Medieval Mixels series, the horselike Paladum.

Like all the Medieval ones, he comes with nice colours, but also the new `teeth` elements in white.

Opening the package we get the pile of elements as well as the instruction booklet.

We start the build with a brown plate, to which we get some ball connectors attached.

The central body part is then build up, with enough bars and connectors to have the model articulate in a lot of different directions.

As the short backlegs are attached, the bodywork is covered up.

The legs at the front are also attached then to the body.

The head features the new teeth elements, four in total, as we connect the single eye of Paladum to his head.

The neck piece is then assembled and put between the big head and smaller body, giving a comical look to the model.

With the golden wings, the horse is complete.

The set also comes with one of the small black Nixel creatures, which is made up of a few parts and a printed face element.  It also carries a silver spear.

This was a nice series of Mixels, and a good buy for the few euros they cost.  I`ll probably end up getting some more of this series as "order fillers" with Lego, just for the elements, and that will be multiple copies of this one, Paladum, in all likelyness!

The X-Files season 10

The truth is out there!

Well, I grew up with Mulder and Scully, and I admit I got goosebumps when after 14 years the intro sounded on my screen again.

Plot

When Mulder is contacted by an internet host called Tad O`Malley, he is cynical about the whole affair that new alien evidence has been discovered.  However, together with Scully, who now works as a regular doctor, they go out to see what the guy has... and are witness of a special plane using alien technology and a girl claiming to have alien DNA just like Scully.
When a soldier present at Roswell comes forth, strange things start happening and the X-Files are re-opened.
This takes them along some adventures before the end game is revealed, a plot by the thought deceased Sigarette Smoking Man, wanting to unleash the Spartan virus on the world, and only Scully can save them with her altered DNA...

Opinion

This was a 6 episode revival of the classic series, and while some comments didn`t call it to highly compared to today`s shows, I enjoyed it.  I loved the `humour` story and the `horror` story that was in the series, like they where in the classic years.
The overal arc, which spanned episodes 1, 2 and 6 where captivating, it`s just a shame it has such an open end, because it was never foreseen there would be anymore then these 6 episodes ever.
Though I wasn`t to fond of the `next generation` investigators, being just to much copies of the original.  But it was a good wave-off for my part, and Scully actually looked better then ever...

Classic Lego Build: 6770 Lunar Transporter Patroller

Today`s classic build takes us back to 1988 and the days of Futuron, but also to the subtheme of Light and Sound.

That was a series of a few City and Space sets that came with a battery holder, bricks with conduction and small lights and sound elements that made the sets light up going `wieew wieew wieew`.

This vehicle, which came with a yellow spaceman, was a wheeled machine which carried the sound and light mechanisms all in the back section of the patroller vehicle.

We start the build with the front section of the car, based on a long plate to which wedge and connector are added.

While the wheel holders are placed at the underside, the edges on the top are bulked out a little.

At the back of this section sits a large rocket engine, and while the pilots chair and controls are added, we place the very large wheels on this front section.  This results in a sort of big buggy tractor like machine.

The aft section uses the same base as the front, yet inverted ofcourse and now with a receptacle piece for the ball joint.

While the wheel axles are placed at the bottom, racks are used to hold the battery holder later on.

We first place the large wheels underneath this carriage, and add some detailing to the section.

The vehicle can now be connected, as we will be doing the next part of the build with the special conductive plates.

The battery holder gets a build up which leads to the front lights, with said conductive plates, allowing you to push the button and have the lights flash.

That whole core is then covered up with regular black plates and dishes to add detailing to it, ready to be placed on the back carriage of the set.

And the full set stands completed:

Light and Sound was a fun subtheme back then, but it really ate batteries in the hands of a then 10-year old hehehe.  It isn`t that much of an awesome build actually, but yup, the special effects make up for a LOT in this set.

Inspirational Lego #67

Another not-so manic monday, so it`s time for a fresh selection of finds from the internet to be shared with the world.

And once again I`ve tried to cover a variety of ranges and themes, so I hope you enjoy the eye-candy.

Yesterday we started educating the Smurf into some decent movie lore, as we kicked off the The Hobbit series, to lead into the Lord of the Rings.  The first build is from that epic movie series, as Smaug is wallowing in the gold of Erebor.

A whole series of cubehead Uni-Kitty figures is next, all depicting a different Star Wars personae.

This Chest Burster from Aliens is just to creepy for words...

This small vignette of Orcs is really nicely made, including the unfortunate one that wanted to take a shortcut through the swamp.

This locomotive is really realistically build.

Nothing beats a good relaxing day at the beach.

Tequilatron`s latest addition, the Mayahuel VTOL plane.

This stuff of nightmares is something I experienced myself as a 5 year old.  Ever since, I`m dead scared of spiders myself.

This druid`s recluse makes fantastic use of wheel mudflaps to recreate the eye symbol on the wall.

And we end the week with this great creation by Orion Pax, who made a classic cartoon series with his Dino Riders builds.
