Star Trek Horizon

While some might like the "Abramsverse" reboot of Trek, for me and many others it are just action movies with the Star Trek name attached to it.

So since the cancellation of Enterprise, but with the new CBS series about to warp in, the void has been filled with fan movies like Renegades or Gods and Men, and now Horizon.

Plot

The movie literally explodes onto your screen as we step in during the Earth / Romulan war, and the NX-04 Discovery is getting battered, only to be saved by Enterprise at the last moment.  She carries a Romulan deserter, whom wants to help the Coalition of Planets in ending the war.

However, a joint Vulcan - Earth operation goes sour and the Discovery is accidentally thrown from the 21st to the 28th century, where a Romulan temporal cold war fugitive is hiding in an old Iconian weapon called Horizon.  This Romulan wants to change history to prevent Romulus being destroyed in the 24th century, and it is up to the crew of the Horizon to prevent this from happening, even if it means they never can get home again.

Opinion

I liked this film.  Sure, I had a hard time warming up to some characters, like Captain Hawke or the weapons officer, but the engineer and the science officer where more then okay.
Sure, it has the ups and downs of Enterprise, with temporal agents and technology loopholes, but it also has a fantastic first half hour with a hole in the franchise: the Earth / Romulan War that took place "between" Archer and Kirk era's.

The special effects are nicely done, and I was someone who DID like Enterprise (most of the time), so it was nice to see the NX back in action with his hopelessly outteched arsenal and defences.
You can check the trailer out HERE on YouTube if it peaked your intrest.
