Sidonia no Kishi: Love Woven in the Stars

The finale of the saga in an original story, supervised by the series creator.

A sequel to the series finale Battle for Planet Nine, many years passed (ironically, both in the series and in real life) for this closure.

Nagate has now become a true Knight of Sidonia upon reaching adulthood, and a bit of an ace onboard the seeding ship Sidonia.  During that decade, the people have lived on relative peace, but they know it won't last forever as the Gauna are still out there, so a large weapon was developped to wipe out the huge Gauna cluster in the Lem system.

But they encounter a Gauna that shares the conscience of the instigator of the 4th Gauna war, Ochiai, and the Gauna have adapted to their weapons and tactics, bringing the fight to a hard pressed matter.  With a conspiracy also onboard the Sidonia taking place, the survival of humanity suddenly hangs in the balance compared to their plan.

The Knights must gather for the final battle, aided by their allied Gauna and Nagate's girlfriend, as they set our in mass.  Soon the casualties start mounting though, and the goal must be to take out the Intelligent type Gauna.  Once they succeed in this, the large weapon is brought to bear, even though the ghost of Ochiai tries to stop them through Nagate, claiming the cluster to be the Gauna memory bank.

But the humans press on, desintegrating the cluster at long last, and be able to settle on the planet.  Nagate is reunited with his girlfriend whom they manage to return to a human form, as the Sidonia, now half crewed, sets out to colonise more planets and spread humanity once again.

A beautifully animated finale to the epos, this is a mecha movie you really should watch if you love the series and the genre.  And the music remains top notch, of course with A-ngela's Knights of Sidonia epic track at the centre!
