Prague, city of Kafka and Charles IV, of a hundred towers and pilsner beer... oh, and of red lights districts.
And so me and my beloved went there last week for a 5 day trip, just to get away from all the stress from work, hobby and other things.
Day 1: Of we go!
When the plane neared the Prague airport, the weather was a lot better then in Belgium, even though we had to grab a cab to rush to the airport, due to an accident on the train track we took...
After inspecting our room in the King George hotel, right in the center of the Old City, we went out first for a walk in the nearby premises, and enjoyed the views.
And then it was time for our first dinner... calculated to euro, we paid around 7 euro per dish. Food, if you go to traditional Czech restaurants, is dirt cheap in the city.
We closed the evening with some half liters, at 40 CZK each, in the hotel. Which had a sort of secluded hallway so we could enjoy the fresh air.
Day 2: the Prague Castle
On our second day, we went for that big tourist attraction, the Castle. We decided to go there using a tourist guide booklet, and followed a route that took us along the jewish quarter and it's peculiar synagoge.
Passing by the national theatre, we arrived at the foot of the climb to the castle...
... and what a climb that is.
Once in the castle, you get to see the downside of the city: everything even slightly touristic is payed for. No free museums like in Antwerp or London, and if you want to do the whole castle, it`ll knock you back 3000+ CZK for 2 people. And you have to buy a license to be allowed to make pictures, though I wasn`t controlled on that anywhere.
After the castle, we descended back to the city, going over the famous Karlsbridge and it`s 13 saints.
And of to dinner, following on a tip I got from work, O Prodanica, or the Ropemaker's Wife. She has a whole story around her, but I guess the painting explains while she now is a ghost, strangled by her husband...
You now how I told you how Prague is the city of red lights? Well, as an example, this is how the urinals look in the restaurant...
An evening walk and a Screaming orgasm later, it was time to conclude day 2, in which we walked 14 kilometres...
Day 3: museum trip day
On our third day, we went for a couple of museums, and some where hilarious
The first one we visited was the Museum of Medieval Torture, and there where some seriously sickening machines in there
Next, we went to a beer museum, which included a beer tasting. Now, if beers here are always served in pints, even the tasting was with large beers. I loved the amber one, Demon, personally the most.
After that, we went to the Sex Machine Museum, dedicated to, yeah, you can guess what. I want that tank though...
A Trdelnik, a local specialty cinnamon bun with fillings of cream or icecream, was next on the todo list.
At night, we went to see a Black Light Theatre show, Life is Life, which was a very amusing night out.
But unfortunatly, the food this time was a flop. Overpriced for small portions in a "goulash special" restaurant, this was total rip offery...
Day 4: sail away
The fourth day, our main goal was to take a trip over the Moldova river, to see Prague from the waterside. These aren`t overpriced expensive, take about an hour, and information is in 8 languages, so it`s worth the money.
The second part of the day, we went wandering the area of Wenclaw Square, including their typical red sausages, and... Pokemon hunting.
But at night, we had perhaps the best dinner of the week. Huge plates, cheap as heck...
We ended the vacation with a last drink at a wine bar next to the hotel, and I thought them how to make my brand of iced coffee. Literally, strong black coffee and ice, and nothing fancy for the rest...
Day 5: this is the end...
Alas, every good story comes to an end, and on the sunday we travelled back to belgium, taking the metro and it's long, immense rollerstairs...
It was a fantastic vacation, and Prague is a city we will definitly come back to in a year or two, because there is so much we still have to see there.
