Cop Craft

The next "lunch time anime" I've been watching, is this 12 episode long fantasy / police series from 2019.

And I must say, I was immediatly enjoying the intro, which was in pure 80s style police series, with a narrated intro and then the theme music.

The series itself takes place in a city called San teresa, the "doorway to Earth" after a portal opened 15 years ago.  On the other side live fairies, monsters, elves and a whole lot of other fantasy creatures.  When Kei Matoba's partner gets killed in a fairie trafficing incident, he is teamed with a special agent from the other side, Tilarna Exedilika.  Born of noble blood and a knight, she is send to weed out those smuggling people illegally from their realm.

Their partnership ships strained and rough as they discover that the users of Fairy Dust can be animated and controlled as zombie like creatures after their dead.  Tilarna goes out on her own to confront Dennis, the crimeboss behind the dust production.  But after slaying him, they find out there is another person behind it all, including the chief of the police department.  There is a conspiracy going on wanting to sow distrust between the humans and the other world, as peace is a lie according to them.

They overpower the red wizard that made a psychic bomb from the Fairy Dust, but the fairy Tilarna was set out to find sacrifices her own life to save her and prevent the bomb from detonating.  The crime solved, they part ways again.  But after a while, he suddenly finds Tilarna on his couch, as she requested a transfer to our world and become the new partner of Kei.

During their first mission together, they face of against nothing less then a vampire.  She abducts Tilarna, in order to learn more about this world.  After overcoming her, they are faced with various problems: a porn theft case for Kei, while Tilarna needs to obtain her driver's license.  When during an undercover mission into an illegal brothel she befirends Zoey, she gets torn between loyalties to justice on the one side, or race and heritage on the other.  Learning as such that in this world, not everything is black or white like in her homeland.

When the mayoral candidates are being both shot, it turns out there are bigger things playing behind the scenes, namely the instigating of hatred between humans and the otherworlders.  And to that end, both races are actually cooperating as extremists would benefit greatly.

Of course, the series also has it's typical comical filler episode arcs, like the one where Tilarna and the housecat change bodies...

The opening, the rawness of the MC, the storystyle... this truly feels like a fantasy anime version of Law and Order, and to be honest, that isn`t a bad thing at all.
