Into the Night season 2

The second season has arrived on Netflix from this excellent Belgian produced sci-fi series, and it numbers 6 episodes again.

And it picks up shortly after the previous finale, as the survivors of Flight 21 are in the military base.

But integration is hard, as they are a drain on the resources and there is like two camps now: the civilians on one hand, the military on the other, even though they try to work together as best as it gets.

But due to an accident, Zara and her son Dominik get locked up in the generator room, with time running out before they have to be turned on again and the heat would kill them.  Going back to the plane to find a cutter, the group discovers the airport has been blown up by a mysterious missile strike, while Colonel Lom discovers the body of Major Terenzio, whom Sylvie killed.

They can`t open the door alas, and Zara makes the ultimate sacrifice together with her son to put the generators back on and preventing the rest of the base getting killed.  Yeah, this was a stomach knotting moment, be warned!  As tensions grow due to this, the colonel gets killed in an accident.  But the survivors need to carry on surviving, and part of the group flies to the Earth Vault in Norway to collect seeds, finding another survivor there who has totally lost it, Gia.

Back at the bunker, an expelled Inez makes contact with the russians, leading them back to the NATO base.  Inside, tensions reach the top as they want to execute Sylvie, while the Norway group sees a deranged Gia destroy the cockpit of their plane.

In the meantime at the base, the military imprisons the civilians, planning on holding a trial on Sylvie as they discovered the video showing her leaving Terenzio behind.  They escape from the base to take the russians helicopter to Norway, but not before Rik sacrifices himself to buy them time from their pursuers, killing the military ringleaders.

In the aftermath, other soldiers discover that Horst actually found a solution as one of his rats he had been testing on survived the day...

While intense, this series was less "race against time" dramatic as the first season, and more a power struggle between the military and the civilians.  This leads to a feeling that often you are just waiting to see who will "take the drop" next unfortunatly and less tenaion on how they will get out on time this time, as the threat of the rising sun is far less present.  To a point you might almost forget this actually.

Not as strong as season 1, this season was, well, okay I guess...
