Vivo

Netflix afternoon time, and the movie of choice was Vivo, a recent addition to their catalogue.

This movie is also the first musical animation Sony made, and features original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also voices the titular character, a little kinkajou.

In Havana, Vivo and his owner Andres are street performers, leading a simple, happy life.  One day, Andres receives a letter from his old friend and love intrest Maria Sandoval, who will be performing one last time and hopes he will be there as well.  Unfortunatly, Andres passes away that night, and Vivo takes it on himself to bring a ballad he wrote for her all the way to Miami.

He does this by sneaking into the suitcase of Gabi, the granddaughter of Andres, who attended his funeral.  She understands the thing Vivo needs to do, and runs off from home to help getting the song from Florida to Miami.  Being chased by the Sand Dollars, girlscouts where Gabi belongs to, they lose the song when they girls are attacked by a giant python in the swamps.

But with Vivo knowing the melody and Gabi the lyrics, they recreate the song and bring it right on time to miss Sandoval, who while saddened by the loss of her old friend, performs it as the final song of her public career.

A nice little animation movie with some great music if you are into latin style, with an ever strong Gloria Estefan in there as well.

And for those that aren`t, like me, it's an entertaining little flick on Netflix...
