Bierfeesten Mechelen

After the highly enjoyable experience of the beertasting event in Antwerp past summer, we found out there is a similar event in Mechelen.

So together with a befriended couple, we went there yesterday in a quest to discover a heap of new beers, and get some serious Untappd going as well.

And with the little man staying over at the grandparents, I could "indulge" myself seriously this time round.  So our plan was that everyone got different beers, so that we could taste them all around and discover that way the ones we liked, and the ones we didn`t so much.

Now, at the end of the day, that meant a LOT of beers have been tasted, so let's have a look at all the ones that passed the revue that day.  Make sure to check my Untappd, and maybe become beer friends, to see how I rated them all!

1. Baskwadder Special Hop 2018, Brouwerij Leysen - 5.9%, 20 IBU

Starting with something special, the first one I took contained hops grown in the personal garden of the micro brewery.

2. Baskwadder Fruit, Brouwerij Leysen - 7.1%, 0 IBU

Not to sweet, not to sour.

3. Delirium Red, Delirium Huyghe Brewery - 8%, 10 IBU

4. Miyagi's Own Brew, The Sisters Brewery - 6.2%, 0 IBU

The only one today costing more then one token, brewed with lemongrass and wakame.

5. Kamil Surfer Rosa, Bieren van Begeerte - 5.5%, 12 IBU

For me the personal winner of the day, it's citrusy touch made it a very fresh and highly drinkable IPA.

6. Tough Cookie, Brussels Beer Project - 6.5%, 15 IBU

Noshi's favorite, as this is a sort of beerlike tiramisu.  Not my cookie though, though they literally cut the bottle top of with a sword...

7. Cherish the Cherries Dansaert, Brussels Beer Project - 6.2%, 0 IBU

This was a very sour one for sure.

8. Fiery Blonde, Sweynbeer Craft Brewery - 6%, 29 IBU

Spiced up, just like my own personal fiery blonde at home.

9. Chili IPA, Sweynbeer Craft Brewery - 7.3%, 53 IBU

This was something special, the chili gave it a special aftertaste, and not in a bad way.

So, after this first round it was time to strengthen the inner person, and a Hawaiian Pokebowl with tofu was taken in to prepare for the second part of the day.

10. Nachtraaf Speciale Amber, De Nachtraafbrouwers - 6%, 20 IBU

A touch of bloodorange made this a highly enjoyable amber.

11. Nachtraaf Wild Cherry, De Nachtraafbrouwers - 6.5%, 0 IBU

A cherry beer, with a very lovely, deep red colour and pink foam.

12. Nachtraaf Tripel Blond, De nachtraafbrouwers - 9%, 40 IBU

Well, it wasn`t bad, but it is a triple like many others I`m afraid.

13. Tripel 9, Brouwerij De Koperen Markies - 9%, 35 IBU

I like to call these one of the "game over" beers, because if you have a few of them, lights tend to go out.  Very good, strong tripel.

14. Rouge 7, Brouwerij De Koperen Markies - 7.5%, 0 IBU

Cherry and strawberry touches in this one.

15. Blond 8, Brouwerij De Koperen Markies - 8%, 30 IBU

If you know Triple Karmeliet, this one is perfect up your alley

16. Jaguar Warrior, Galea Craft Beers - 14%, 65 IBU

Containing nor less then 6 sorts of hop, this is a serious delicious, but also serious knock out barleywine style beer.

17. Lupulus Fructus, Brasserie Lupulus - 4.2%, 15 IBU

Noshi's other winner, this was a very tasty fresh fruit beer.  I personally found it the best of the fruit beers we tatsed today.

18. Claudette, The Nordic Pantry - 4.5%, 0 IBU

Using smoked salt from Iceland, it was actually a touch to salty for me.

19. Smoky Pin-Ap, De Circus Brouwerij - 6.1%, 0 IBU

A smoked taste with a touch of pineapple, this didn`t work out for me to be honest.  I don`t like pizaa hawaii either, but I took this one for the gorgeous label.

20. Abracadabrew, De Circus Brouwerij - 5.6%, 0 IBU

Noshi's least favorite today, as it didn`t have enough fruity taste for her liking.

21. Vicaris Lino, Brouwerij Dilewyns - 6.5%, 0 IBU

My last one of the day, and there was something very attracting to the stand.  The guy behind it (and I guess his father) just seemed to radiate love for their product, so I just needed to grab one.  I didn`t mind this tasty beer being my closure for the day.  It's also a very special beer as it is brewed with flax.

And so ended the Mechelen Bierfestival for the band, but of course, we still needed to grab something to eat.  So we went to Brasserie Sam right next to our home, and had a nice steak... of course with a fresh, simple pils, the Estaminet (5.3%, 22 IBU) going alongside it.

A very fun day, and thanks to our sponsor Art Studio Ribbi, who in no way actually sponsored me for this.  He is just a good friend and our driver for today.  He is a professional photographer though, so if you want to have some cosplay pics made, drop him a line an tell him I send you, then maybe he will buy me a beer next time round hehehe.

So, that's it for this beer festival, Beer-i-corn signing off.
