Okay, I admit I opted to watch this one for the sheer cuteness of the trailer.
Neko eared heroines... guilty.
With 15.000 species of animals on Earth threatened with extinction, it is time to act. And so five super heroines are recruited, all with cute animal style outfits... They are recruited during an endangered species exhibition, and Ichigo faces her first Chimera Anima, big monsters out to defeat them. These are created by alien lifeforms possessing animals, and the Mew Mew's must banish these out again.
Okay, this is a magical girl show in the best Sailor Moon fashion, but with neko girls instead of sailor outfits. It was fun to watch, even though FAR outside my regular watching shows. Heck, even the animation and style gave off a more decennia old vibe, though that depends wether you like it or not. Working from a fairy tail looking castle, the Cafe Mew Mew, her first mission is to activate the other Mew's powers. But during a trip to the zoo, a strange boy appears, stealing even a kiss from her before turning the animals into chimera's.
The fifth member is finally located, but she is a famous actress and popstar, so in order to activate her powers the girls do an audition to get near her. And while they succeed in making her the fifth Mew, she turns out not intrested in the team, being a lone wolf like her animal power. Kish goes after her, but the girls come to the rescue, resulting in her joining the team after all... though the Mew Mew's are revealed to the world as a superheroine group as a result.
The newest defeat of Kish leads to him being replaced by Tart and Pie to take down the Mew Mew's. A resulting confrontation leads to Ichigo's boyfriend almost learning she is a Mew Mew, but she manages to diffuse the situation. But later on, she gets stuck in the form of a cat, as it seems using her powers is altering her DNA, making it imperative the invaders are defeated soon.
The Mew's take the battle to the alien invaders around Tokyo Tower, trying to hold them back until Ichigo arrives. Together, they manage to get the Mew Aqua, and preventing Tokyo from being poisoned by the aliens.
Okay, so this was a magic girls anime... and not really my thing, though Pudding was rather comical. A second season has been announced, but it'll really depend what is on that season if I'll watch it I think.
