Noir and Kanata are back for the second part of this mecha anime, which is greater then expected.
And so I sat back every week for my dose of battling big piloted suits of course.
Except Noir is still overriden by the feisty, strong willed Mystere personality instead. Kanata shows her the life in the colony, as the Noir persona glimmers through at moments. A rocket, the Kanata 1, is build for a test, in a further attempt to reach "Histoire".
Mystere has deducted she resides on Luna, and to that end Kanata starts training in order to be able to help her out finding Histoire, with whom she made brief contact once. But Mystere is also the target, as she is seemingly the key to Paradise for Weisheit. This results in a fight for the Mqgus between Kanata qnd Macht Ewigkeit aka Black Mask. But his friends intervene, driving Macht off, though it is revealed that Tokio is actually another ex-agent called Licht.
As Noir refelcts on the battle and the relation between Mystere and Kanata, she realises that once Mystere's self-repair protocols are finished, her personality will be supressed. She decides to go out in the colony, doing chores to show her growth to Kanata. But this running wild of the "safe mode" puts Mystere in a sort of coma. He receives information he needs to go to Amasia to help her together with Ciel, as Kurokamen (Macht) and White Mask (Light aka Tokio) discuss their philosophies. But there he faces Macht, as it turns out Amasia is the hometown of Ideal. They engage in a duel as he wants to take Noir from Kanata, trying to convince him they could help. Licht also gets involved in the battle, and they manage to capture him as Ciel doublecrosses him.
As Kanata is thrown in a cell, the commitee decides what to do with him. Weisheit instructs Ciel to kill Kanata, as that would end their contract and reformat her, meaning she wouldn't remember Kanata nor killing him. But she has serious issues with trying to fullfill that command, and instead she helps him trying to escape. He finds that his mech Daisy has been fully restored by Licht / Tokio as he boards it together with Ciel. Tokio helps guide him in a mock attack to a lift to get them to the surface, as he questions Weisheit, just as Macht starts to do.
Ciel offers herself to go into a contract with Kanata as his Magus, as they are cornered by Macht and troops. But she goes offline as Weisheit tries to reboot her. With both Ciel and Noir now offline, they fear they might not live long anymore and the Drifters must seek a way to help them. Macht and Licht share a drink over the Singing Princess, discussing their difference in point of views what Amasia wants to reach and what Magus's mean to them. As the Drifters try to awaken their Magus's again, Noir (who receives Ciel's body in a final redeeming sacrifice from her) and Mystere's program suddenly reveal an elder person, greeting the new masters of her two girls. This lady, called Pascale, tells how bioth Mystere and Noir came into being. Project Pascale was created by her to show Mystere the outside world together with her.
Noir originated apparently from space, part of Histoire, and fused into Mystere. Pascale lied to Mystere telling her a safemode, but during an attack she is injured, with the only remaining Black Box technology resting inside Noir as she is laid to rest where Kanata found her. To fullfill her dying wish, they decide to journey to Histoire.
As they prepare, a flashback reveals how Weisheit founded the Ideals des Himmels, and the difference between Macht and Tokio and why the latter ran away. As Kanata repairs his mecha, he is suprised Tokio returned to them, while Noir learns of her new body step by step, even performing instead of Ciel. But Ideal is out to try and capture her in force, and the Drifters are ready to meet them and defend Noir and Mystere. Piloting his upgraded Daisy, Kanata faces Macht on the field of battle, and joined by Tokio who comes to engage Macht in order that Kanata can proceed.
Tokio overcomes Macht, but Weisheit intervenes in a very special, ultrafast coffin, knocking Tokio back and at Macht's mercy. He goes after Mystere, breaching the base camp and forcefully shutting down Mystere. He steals a rocket ship, leaving for outer space, letting his troops behind and letting them feel betrayed. Thanks to Tokio and Schnee, Macht also finally sees the truth, but Mystere is hooked up to the interface controls of the spacestation Weisheit flew to.
A second ship is prepared to send Kanata, Noir, Macht and Tokio with their Magi to the Histoire station, to bring back Mystere and stop Weisheit. As he sends a signal rendering the Magus on Earth inert, this enrages Noir and she and Kanata engage. Weisheit tries to corrupt her with words, but the pictures she made during her time with the humans makes her rebuke this and they set out to free Mystere. As Kanata and Noir are threatened, Mystere awakens and intervenes.
Together they overcome Weisheit and his machine, as he sees the final revelation of Histoire he launches himself into space to die with that knowledge, remembering a lullaby Ciel used to sing for him. Mystere tells them she will stay on Histoire to guard it, and prevent it from being used again for wrong reasons, as she says her goodbye to Kanata and Noir. The Magus are rendered operational again, and life starts picking up as before once more.
I really enjoyed this series, it had nice develoment, some good antagonists and a hero you can sympathize with. Being rather niche as a mecha anime, it is flying under the radar, but it is definitly worth checking out!
